  1. Lot of people rushing out to buy second or third cards without knowing what the results will actually be. I have been waiting for this news for a long time (and thanks to those who have put pressure on P3D and nVidia) but as performance restricted by CPU I will wait for others to report on the benefits. I am hoping that, as I can get great smooth frame rates on my system with one screen, I can get the same across 3 screens with SLI support. Then a happy bunny.
  2. Spoke to a real world pilot this year as I had the same question. He said he would normally turn off the autopilot at around 1500ft above ground, depending on conditions, to get a feel for the aircraft and conditions before touchdown.
  3. I recently asked a pilot at the end of a European flight when he disengaged the autopilot and landed it by hand because I wasn't sure either. He said it was entirely up to him to decide, but usually it would be around 1500ft AGL so he had enough time to get a feel for the conditions before actually landing. I realise the more I know, the more I have to learn, so speaking to real pilots whenever possible is always useful. Hope this helps
  4. Hello everyone, I have a problem loading Pilots Software FS Global Ultimate Europe/Africa. Having rebuilt computer I have W7 on SSD1, FSX, PMDG 737NGX and Beech Duke on SSD2. This all works perfectly, very fast. I intend to load other add-ons onto a separate hard disk and have started with Global Ultimate installed correctly on that separate hard disk. When loading FSX with Global Ultimate it takes 2 minutes, with it unchecked in scenery library it takes 15 seconds. Is the 2 minute load time normal? I still have UTX, GEX and some Photo-scenery and Mega Airports still to load on this disk. I have spent the afternoon searching for answers but got nowhere so any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I have seen a post about using REX for textures and ASE for winds aloft but it was some time ago. Any ideas on how to get these these two to work together in the same way in their latest versions Many thanks
  6. Thanks,It was NVidia 3D Surround. It doesn't show as a program in the start panel but can be accessed by right clicking on the desktop. It took a while to configure and only after reloading Windows with the latest MSI drivers but now works fine. Thanks again.
  7. Hello Everyone,I am running FSX on Windows7 64bit and using 2x MSI 560 cards, SLI cable connected. All 3 screens work fine in Windows. In FSX Cfg file I have set wide to true. But I still only see centre screen.Anyone got an idea how get FSX across the 3 screens
  8. I,ve made the same decision. I have an XFX 260GTX Black Edition and have just plumped for an MSI o/clocked 560 Twin Frozer. Arriving on Monday so can't tell you more.See my thread about 6 topics down, "2 video cards." So I intend to get a second 560 to run multiple screens but it is difficult to get a definitive answer to what is possible.I think it's a case of experimenting. I'll set up the 560 and then see if I can run the 260 as well. When I get the second 560 I'll try it in SLI and non SLI modes. The NVidia website also suggests that when in SLI Surround mode a third "accessory video card" is possible, whatever that means, so I'll try the 260.The outcome is anyones guess.I'll reply again when I have the 560 running.
  9. So it seems that NVidia SLI will only support 3 screens with 2 cards.Today Radeon have released their new 6990 card which supports 5 screens and NVidia release their new GTX590 card in a couple of weeks. So we'll wait and see. Does anyone else spend as much time looking at this stuff as actually flying. I hope I'm not alone. Thanks for all your help.Ken
  10. Yes, 3 monitors for outside views, including Main Instrument Panel and the fourth for overhead, CDU, throttles and pedestal etc.I have looked at ATI Radeon cards but had a bad experience with one and looking at other forums NVidia seems better suited to FSX.So, anyone with experience of 2 NVidia cards and 4 monitors. Thanks for all your helps so far everyone.Ken
  11. The idea is to use 2 NVidia cards in SLI (not surround) mode to drive 4 monitors.Having just been on to the NVidia website it says FSX is supported. So I assume when in SLI mode FSX sees both cards as one.Anyone know if this is the case?As to the MOBO this for a new build and it will have SLI support.Ken
  12. I have heard from several sources that FSX only supports one video card but looking at this forum it seems several people are using 2 in SLI or crossfire mode.At present I have an NVidia GTX260 and 2 monitors. I use one for main view and the second for overhead/CDU/pedestal etc. (I like flying PMDG 747).I would like to have a 4 screen set-up, 3 for the main forward view and the fourth for the overhead panel etc.So I am looking for a definitive answer as to whether SLI and Crossfire work with FSX. Having read many forums I am not convinced about the Matrox Triplehead Go option. All repies gratefully receivedKen
  13. Jim,Once again, thanks for all your help.Ken
  14. Hi Jim,Used NickN's to install everything. Have up-dated the scenery library as you suggested, photo scenery up top, Global 2010, UTX and finally FSX.Still no good but the problem is with FS Altitude, if I disable that everything else works perfectly. It says it is photo realistic scenery (whatever that means) so I shall experiment to see where it should go in the scenery library, unless somebody already knows, and then post it here in case it would help it anybody else.Once again Jim thanks for your help.Best regards,Ken
  15. Thanks Jim,Having looked at the Scenery Library Utx is right at the top, then Mega Airports, then standard FSX, then Global 2010 and finally base files. So from what you say should I move the Global 2010 files to the top and leave the rest as they are? Is there a definitive site about how these ought to be organised as FSX learning centre is not very clear. Also GEX does not appear in this list, is that correct? Finally, an error on my part because I haven't used it for a few weeks, I forgot to mention I also have FS Altitude for Europe installed for use with PMDG 747. This appears in the middle of the various Mega Airports scenery which doesn't seem quite right. Thanks for your help JimKind regards,Ken
