AMD's are inexpensive, but looks like this chip is poor for overclocking. If you are gonna drop $300 on a chip, just get an i7 920 or 930. Especially if all you're doing is playing FSX. I've found that with my i7 980x, you don't really get too much out of it that is beneficial for FSX (except the fact that because its ony 32nm, it is much cooler which means higher clock speeds without risking burning up the chip. I've got mine at 1.51 volts and it stays under 60 C while playing FSX.I dunno. My buddy was just tellin me about horror stories he's had with the AMD chips he's owned in the past. Melted CPUs, exploding mother boards... Great if you're on a budget, but it just doesn't have the quality that an Intel chip is built with. The i7's love taking a punishing and they still keep working after hundreds of BSoDs and high volts.

AMD chips offer excellent value, but are out-performed by comparably-priced i7s. Even the 4-core i7s out-perform the new x6s in most tasks, let alone 6-core i7s.

Melted CPU's? Exploding motherboards? I think your buddy is filling you with malarky or needs to stay away from computers because it is obvious he has no clue what he is doing. The only accounts I have ever heard of AMD's exploding is a Duron placed under extreme overclocking with its HSF removed. In fact the only company recently that have had motherboard and chip issues is Intel with their early P55 motherboards that would burn chips due to poor contact. So trying to say Intel's QA is better than AMD is just false. BTW I run Intel's (twin 920's) and AMD's (965, 720) all overclocked on air and never experienced a single issue with QA.

The aforementioned "exploding Duron" video was a setup. There was actually a shotgun under the motherboard which was triggered remotely. Modern CPUs have thermal protection which prevents them from melting, and motherboards don't explode.
