May 1, 201016 yr Hi All(Sorry about title - i mean FSX!)I currently have a E8600 / nVidia9600GTS+1024mb with 4GB DDR2 ram. I find that although FSX runs very well in 2D, the LDS 767 in Virtual Cockpit isnt always great, I have no other addons apart from Active Sky, and dont use traffic.I have decided to bite the bullet and buy a new PC. There are too many old components in my system which prevent me from upgrading on a budget any further (eg. 350W PSU, IDE drives, slow HDD etc...). Also, my 17" monitor is too small to read the VC gauges.I have found the following spec'd PC. I would be very grateful for any thoughts on whwther you think it is a good upgrade. I would be interested to know if anyone with any experience could tell me the likely performance gain. Im readying myself for the PMDG 737, so i want a rig that will allow me a seemless VC experience! Thanks allRegardsRobNew PC specs:Intel Rob BatesSimming since the age of 10 with MSFS 5.0 P3D v5.0 | 10700K (@stock) | EVGA GTX1080Ti SC2 | Z490-E ROG STRIX | 32GB 3600MHz | 970 EVO Plus M.2 & EVO 850 SSDs | H115i cooling | NZXT H440 Case | Samsung 32" CJG 1440p Curved Monitor | Virtual-Fly Ruddo & TQ3+ | Thrustmaster FCS Sidestick | Skalarki MCDU Ask me about (my most flown): FSLabs A320-X series | MaddogXIn the hangar: Majestic Q400 Pro | PMDG 747 | A2A C182, Cherokee, Comanche & Spitfire
May 1, 201016 yr Are you building a PC or buying one? A few comments on your configuration:1) that power supply is likely garbage, what brand is it and what is the amperage of the +12V rail(s)?2) the RAM is mis-matched, you need 6GB or 12GB3) the RAM is too slow, you want 1600 or faster4) RAID 0 is a waste of time. It adds unnecessary complexity to the configuration, provides no tangible benefit, and greatly increases the chance of failure as well as data loss as a result of this failure. DO. NOT. USE. RAID. 0.5) the graphics card is a bit under-powered, you should look for a faster card, preferably from Nvidia. I'd suggest a GTX 275, 285, 470, or 480.

If you want a barely used BFG GTX 275 OC, I am looking to sell mine. If you can afford it, I recommend the GTX 470. Shane Gavin
May 1, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the advice guys. I usually build my own system, but as so much needs changing, it is better value to buy a system in this time round. Whilst i can change certain bits, the spec is largely defined. Based on your comments and if i were to buy this system, would pulling out one of the 2GB memory sticks (thus enabling 6GB triple channeled) actually speed up the performance? Also - the clock speed of the i7 930 is slower than the current 3.33GHz E8600 that I have. Granted there are many more advantages with the new i7, but knowing FSX is relatively old and hungry for gigahertz, do you think i will see a large improvement?CheersRob Rob BatesSimming since the age of 10 with MSFS 5.0 P3D v5.0 | 10700K (@stock) | EVGA GTX1080Ti SC2 | Z490-E ROG STRIX | 32GB 3600MHz | 970 EVO Plus M.2 & EVO 850 SSDs | H115i cooling | NZXT H440 Case | Samsung 32" CJG 1440p Curved Monitor | Virtual-Fly Ruddo & TQ3+ | Thrustmaster FCS Sidestick | Skalarki MCDU Ask me about (my most flown): FSLabs A320-X series | MaddogXIn the hangar: Majestic Q400 Pro | PMDG 747 | A2A C182, Cherokee, Comanche & Spitfire
May 1, 201016 yr If clock speed were all that mattered people would still be running 3.8GHz Pentium 4 processors. i7 processors are faster than Core 2 processors, at the same clock speed. You would notice a nice increase in FSX performance moving from an E8600 to an i7 930.
