May 17, 201016 yr It occurred to me, as I was struggling to help the Library recover with some file uploads, that there were some major pieces for Fly! missing from the File Library. These weren't just sceneries and liveries, but whole programs! It doesn't help new users of TerraModels-created airport sceneries if the required programs and support pieces (TerraModel's texture files and Biber Salsa's models, for instance) are missing from the library, let alone the TerraModels program itself. We are working to re-upload the program and textures, so that will be resolved. On a hunch, I did a search for Todd Klaus' tremendous program, TerraScene - it also appears to be missing! It's bad enough that the online hosts for the USGS data files are no longer running, but at least the program is still excellent for generating scenery from authors' packs and or/locally stored data files. Without it, re-uploading my TS scenery packs won't do new users any good.If anyone has knowledge of Todd Klaus' e-mail address or a way to contact him, I would be happy replace the missing program in the Library if he gives permission. May 18, 201016 yr I wish I knew as there were a couple times I had a question for Todd....Todd, where for art thou???As always, if there is something for Fly! or Fly! II needed, let me know and I'll check my CDs and backup drive to see if I have them. Maybe the library managers will allow some of us to replace files if they were originally in the library? Luckily - Rob is at realAir so if something of his is missing, we know we can get in touch with him for permission to re-upload. :( Cheers! ___________________________ Kenneth E Wood Jr 🌪️🌩️ ex AG1, USN (14yr Vet) Weather Foecaster
May 18, 201016 yr Author We've already run into some situations where attempts are being made to re-upload other authors' creations. I've received permission from Allen Kriesman to re-upload his TerraModels and the TM texture files, so those will be on their way in the next 24 hours. So far, the Library Managers have shown a willingness to accept reinstatement of files by others as long as the author gives permission. This can be problematic when we can't get hold of the author or they don't respond.I would also like to reinstate Biber Salsa's wonderful TM models, but he hasn't responded to my messages at this time. Many of the posted TerraModels sceneries used Biber's files, so unless Biber responds or the Library managers allow us to upload them without the author's permission, new users of Fly!II will not be able to use the over 1,000 TM sceneries that were created with them.I have all of the TerraScene files and am trying to contact Todd so we can reinstate them. May 19, 201016 yr Randall,Whilst it seems only polite to ask before re-uploading files that were lost in the hacking episode it seems strange to insist on having the author's permission to do so, provided due acknowledgment is made. regards,Ian
May 19, 201016 yr Author Ian,I agree to a point, yet I can't fault the library managers for attempting to make sure that authors' creations are not used or distributed without there permission. Obviously, the author wanted them in the library in the first place or they would not have been posted. However, there have certainly been moments where authors also removed their files when they were used inappropriately (Jak Fearon's original texture sets for TerraScene come to mind).I believe the library managers are open to re-posting files without permission under the proper circumstance. We'll find out this evening, when I attempt to reestablish Biber Salsa's model set for TerraModels. In the case of Todd's TerraScene, we have to be very careful, as he has specific statements with his program against the distribution of his program anywhere by any means without his involvement. September 25, 201015 yr Is there any status on Terrascene? Does this impact Legacy? regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
