May 24, 201016 yr DDR3 RAM comes in dual and triple channel. The X58 chipset for 1366 pin cpu's (like the i7-9xx series) requires triple channel. Like Art says, you can use dual-channel DDR3 with the P55 mobo's, but you'll have to settle for a 1156-pin cpu (like - say - the i7-870) You don't have to get 1 GB sticks of triple-channel - I'd recommend against only having 3 GB all-up. You can get 3x2GB or even 3x4GB, if you want to get totally crazy. If you drill down thru the newegg menu for memory, you can search specifically for triple-channel in the size you want. You can spend between USD180-280 for 6GB.I agree re the 5870. Although I read a review yesterday about the massive performance gains from the GTX480x2 SLI above a single unit. Too expensive just yet, I think.enjoy your shoppingJeff Jeff Hunter
May 24, 201016 yr you need to get a good video card. if you are going to spend money on all the other gear and then put a crapp card in?gtx285 gtx470 gtx480 sorry but i don't know much about ATI cardsPaul Paul sheather PC win7 64bit i7 960 oc 3.80 gtx 470x2 SLI 8gig ram PMDG MD11 737NG 747-400 747-800 JS41 B1900 CS 727 757 767 C130 AEROSOFT A320-1 TWIN OTTER FSD PORTER SENECA WARBIRDSIM P51B CARENADO C208 C206 CERA BELL212 FLIGHT1 ATR Active sky ASA
May 24, 201016 yr I didn't notice on the OP's last post that a switch was made from Intel to AMD processor. That's OK, and I guess 4 GB is better than 3 GB. It'll give you another .5 GB with that 32 bit OS before relying on the hard drive for virtual memory, which is more important than the memory speed. I don't think I'd call the HD 5770 "crapp" since it's on par with the GTX 260 at least. I stay with NVida for FSX but am aware that the ATI/AMD cards can be better if they now have the right drivers for FSX. Art
May 24, 201016 yr Come on, if you are going to do it, do it right. Ditch the 32 bit OS and go with Windows 7 64. Get 3x2GB DDR3 1600Mhz memory with a CAS 7 or 6 max latency. Also, for the money you can't beat a GTX 470 for FSX, I know you said no nvidia card, but that is not a wise decision for FSX, if you play other games as well, than sure, a 5850 or 5870 is great. Finally, I seriously recommend an i7 930, when overclocked it beats the hell out of any AMD processor for FSX. Shane Gavin
May 25, 201016 yr ... as im using Windows Vista 32 bit. Please, please, please don't bottleneck your new system with 32 bit Vista. Go with 64 bit Windows 7.Edit: Shane beat me to it. :( Thaellar
