Map and GPs view cause crash

Featured Replies

The title says it all. When ever I go to map view or Try to re size the gps mapit causes Fs9 to crash. I have tried a complete reinstal and it still causes same problem. Never had this problem since I bought game in 2003.Any help here would be welcome. Thanks Steve

Hi Steve. My first thought (question) is when you did the uninstall did you go to the window locations where FS9 placed files such as; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9, C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 and C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files and manually delete everything? When you uninstall, anything that is not stock from the four disk set will be left behind. So when you run the installer again you may very well have been adding a clean FS9 install to the offending 'object', thus recreating the old problem again. So anything, even FS9 related software that has its own installer and 'connects' to FS9, yet is installed outside the sim could be the source of the problem. If you did completely remove all FS9 related files and folders and programs before the new installation then I would look at possible OS or driver issues that could be popping up. (Not very likely, I don't think.)Make a list of any changes you made FS9, or your computer in general, right before the problem began and that should lead you to the original cause and a possible fix or work around.Hope this help you out.Best regards,Mel

Tanks for the reply Mel. I had not removed the files were talking about and I also had not removed my saved flight plan files either. I will have naother go tonight.

Steve,Does the crash always happen at the same location where you're flying? Or does it happen anywhere? I'm asking because I had the same thing happen to me in that FS9 crashed when I opened the GPS or map at a specific location. I finally found out that it was a bad scenery file that I downloaded and installed. This has happened to me twice in two different locations with two different addons.

The problem might also have something to do wtih you graphic card. I know it doesn't sound related, but I remember reading about it in the net.Try different display drivers (newer or older) and see if there is a difference. And just to make sure: you do have the FS9.1 patch installed, right?Like WallysWorld mentioned it might be a corrupt scenery (or AFCAD) file.Hoiwever it will not be easy to spy. Try deactivating a chosen (suspicious) scenery and try. Then again and again till you maybe find the guilty. To check for double AFCAD, you may use ScanAFD ( http://www.nwlink.com/~erog/ScanAFD.zip ).Another trick (at least tempopary) might be to deactivate jetway and intersection display in the map (if you don't need them). This happens to be a problem sometimes, especially if you updated you FS/GPS navdata. To do it, go to your fs9.cfg and change the following to zeros (make a safe copy before):In [MAPVIEW_MAP]:SHOW_VICTOR=0SHOW_JET=0SHOW_INTERSECTIONS=0In [FlightPlanMap]:SHOW_VICTOR=0SHOW_JET=0SHOW_INTERSECTIONS=0

Hi guys!

I think I have finally solved the problem of the constant crashes as soon as I loocked at the map.

After many tests, I deleted the file AP951150 that is located in the Scenery\World\Scenery.

Since I've done this, FS9 no longer locked.

Obvioùsly this is a bad file that I downloaded I can not remember wgere from and it is part of some scenery (Innsbruck?) Boh!

Hi.

AP951150 is a stock airport file...

If your Innsbruck addon contained a replacement for it try temporarily using the stock file from the FS9 CD. If your addon did not contain a replacement then there is likely to be a conflicting file somewhere else. if you remove AP951150 you will lose also all the other stock airports contained within it.

I currently have map and GPS crashes around Punta Arenas SCCI but I don't fly there very often so finding the conflict is a low priority for me.

Best regards,

Dave

Hi,

AP 951150 must be placed in Scenery\Eurw\Scenery and not Scenery\world\scenery

So if you downloaded it with a new scenery you must put it there deactivating the stock one [or any newer with the same name] in the same file in order to have the correct altitude at your new airport

     Best regards
