May 30, 201016 yr Hi,Just installed RCv4 for the first time and was having a look through the basic settings. I tried to click on the 'Pilot Voices' to hear clips of the individual pilot's voices and each time I get an error:Run-Time Error '75' RadarContact.rcv4module.pilot_ackI saw the post pinned posts about using Norton/Kapersky but I use AVG (free version)...Any Ideas? Thanks Gareth Howell Cheshire (UK)
May 30, 201016 yr HiI have read that AVG latest offering has caused problems with other FS programs.Norman Bowman Norman Bowman
May 30, 201016 yr Moderator AVG v9 does indeed introduce problems which is why I stopped using it some time ago. I bet if you disable all elements of AVG (there are several services that have to be stopped) RC will be just fine.Have a look at Microsoft Security Essentials. It's a good free alternative and much less obtrusive. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 30, 201016 yr No problems with AVG9 Free here on XP. Did you exclude the folders as follows in the image?
May 30, 201016 yr Moderator No problems with AVG9 Free here on XP. Did you exclude the folders as follows in the image?Ron,That should resolve the issue but why on earth should users have to do this especially when AVG9 gives no clue that it's actually preventing certain things happening? Surely it should be an opt-in service - not opt-out? :( Ray (Cheshire, England). May 31, 201016 yr The exclude folder list applies to real-time scanning. Free AVG I believe does not have application protection dealing with user privileges - the firewall section is grayed out on mine.In the AVG main window under e-mail tools there is a log viewer. It is more than likely some other conflict, perhaps the VISTA or WIN 7 user access control especially with applications residing in any other program file folder. The user has stated though that he gets the error 75 as soon as he issues a voice test. I have not listened to the test phrase in a long time and I don't know if catenation of .wav files requiring temporary file creation might be involved.I just mentioned the folder excludes as a idea to try as a first step.As with most anti-virus application, excludes from scanning in any form (real-time, etc.) are usually not on by default. In AVG you do have a default lists of extensions that can be edited for inclusion or exclusion but this is global. To protect a new user opt-out of specific folders, files, or extensions is not enabled until specifically directed for new user safety.A new post has just appeared in the pinned topic about Norton, etc., and he is using MS's free package Security Essentials. I don't know the details for that. If the option is there I'd set up RC as a trusted application. In Kapersky and Norton I don't know if it were just antivirus/spyware applications or the full Internet suites. I think it was mentioned at least for Kapersky that if an application tried to write too frequently to folders under a program file folder that triggered protection. So we need to know the operating system, the folder setup for FS and RC, if the user is logged in as an admin, and if RC is set to run with admin privileges usually by setting properties in the shortcut calling it up.
May 31, 201016 yr Moderator There is no option in MSE for excuding files or folders. It's far less controlling than AVG. My main gripe with AVG is that it doesn't tell you it is inhibiting an application so you can react as required.Until we get more info from the OP we can't really advise. Ray (Cheshire, England). May 31, 201016 yr Author So, I uninstaled AVG and this didn't fix the problem with RCv4. I reinstalled RCv4 and that still didn't sort it out. Next I tried running RCv4 as admin and surprise, surprise, this fixed. I bloody hate user account control!Hopefully it's fixed now though... Gareth Howell Cheshire (UK)
