How much of an FSX DX9.c gaming inprovement?

Featured Replies

For those that have replaced a 1GB GTX-285 for a GTX-470 or 480...how much of a true and better difference in FSX did you find? Could you put your conclusion in a percentage such as: 'I found the 4xx cards to add xx percent amount of performance and rendering gain in such areas as':1. FPS increase over base card2. Land class rendering3. Clarity/Blur of renderings, etc4. AtmosphericsWith the superb increase on my GTX-285 1GB with running the 257.15 beta drivers,...of course I am curious to know how this driver is running the 470 or 480!Is it time to upgrade, or did you find not too much more in percentage performance if using a GTX 285 as your baseline? Thanks,

Mitch,Maybe can you find some opinions and feedback hereI hope it helps.

Thanks David, I'll check it out.Post Edit: David, I just came back from reading each post throughout the 3 pages. With the 257.15 giving me killer performance on my GTX 285 1GB...I think that I will stay with this for the present. If my present performance is my baseline, I did not 'read' of any improvements above and beyond my '285 to justify the cash expenditure moving to a 4xx series card. I might pass on the 4xx series and see what the 5xx series brings to FSX. Thanks for the link...it basically was what I was after as per info.BTW, I was stationed in Pardess Hannah on the kibbutz; (Givat Chaim Ichud) when off duty from the Golan Heights in the 70's. I had a chance to tour much of Israel, and loved the land and its people, the 'Sabra's' (SP), lol. Boy..do I have a funny story about my buying a ring...in Joppa.....oh yeah... Shalom!Mitch

The more I read the more I'm convinced i'm better off sticking with what I got now and focus in a CPU upgrade when the time and the chance comes.

I agree with the CPU side of the equation. Thinking about the GPU side, I've become quite convinced in my own situation about the GTX 275 to 470 (or better) upgrade. Unfortunately I did not see a big improvement with the 257 drivers so this seems a good time to move forward. Prices have slid down now on the 470, and the supply is plentiful. Judging by eBay, there's still quite some residual value in my 275 so the 470 could end up costing about
