June 15, 201015 yr Hi all, I thought reading this topic that someone might be able to offer advice here. Perhaps directed to 'Chock'?I am familiar in adding additional 'paint jobs' to my Simobjects/aircraft Folder, but recently I had to undertake a complete reinstall of FSX and addons in my 737-800 flight simulator, and have the following problem. One of the repaints I like to fly is the Thomson 737-800. Like all my additional liveries I added in the normal way, but I can't get the ATC to call 'Thomson 1123'. Depending on what I try (in the cfg file), it either calls Boeing G-STE, (my initials!) or simply 1123 leaving out the word Thomson. Before the reinstall this aircraft worked just fine.I have tried installing on another P.C. where I have FSX, and use for scenery making etc, and the result is the same. The word Thomson appears in the Aircraft/Display/Details window, but as I say ATC will not 'pick up' on this word anymore.Just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to get this part of ATC to work? Many thanks in advance
June 15, 201015 yr I spent the day fishing yesterday and the evening frying and eating the days catch at a friends house, so I am behind here.Terry -That was a real nightmare getting home. I have had one or two similar experiences, but maybe not as nasty. Al has made a great little tutorial here!! Take it a bit at a time and you'll pick it up. It would be a heck of a lot easier to sit next to someone for a day or two, but I started out like you and learned what I know by trial and error. I have a couple retired pilot friends I lean on for advice now and then. The main thing for me was to learn the auto pilot. Once you're off the ground with the gear and flaps up the AP flies the airplane and all you have to do is tell it what to do. I also discovered it is easier to fly IFR than VFR because ATC tells you what altitudes and headings and you just instruct the AP. You do have to figure out the speeds though. To bad there isn't a FS school we could go to. You know a Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced type thing. I would pay to do all three!! Like I said, I'm still really a rookie after 10 years! Wow! I was blown away by the picture of the Gravetye!! Never imagined you'd have that scenery!! What a place!!Al -It was kind of you to take the time to do this very excellent and informative tutorial. I haven't read it entirely, but I will. Maybe I can learn something as well. (maybe you should start the school---I would love to go to England again!))Selkan -FSX does not recognize all the different carrier names/call signs. In fact FSX doesn't not recognize Easy Jet or just Easy for that matter (at least I couldn't get it to). I noticed it won't recognize United Airlines, but it will just *United*. In the past I have been able to get it to recognize some well known carriers by modifying the name in the config file to the one actually use in real life. Check your config file to see what the ATC Arline name is and modify it to the real world call sign for Thompson. If it was recognized before then it should also be possible after a re-install. When FSX was made I would imagine they had to record the call signs and not all the well known carriers were included. I doubt at this point additional carriers can be added.Bruce
June 15, 201015 yr Hi Bruce, thanks for response. I will certainly see what the Call Sign in real life is for Thompson, but as said the strange thing is that this worked before my reinstall. As you will know in the cfg.file there is a line:- atc_airliner=, and it has been my understanding that this is where you write the 'call sign' you wish to use? I stand to be corrected here.

I changed the config atc airline from Thompson to Thomson Airlines to Thomson Air and none of those worked. All I got from atc was the flight # - 635. Maybe if you could find the original file that you had installed before and looked to see what the config atc airline line looked like?? I also search the FSX config in application data and looked at all the folders in the FSX root folder as well. I can see nothing regarding atc airlines. There is an atc dll file in the FSX folder, but I don't want to mess with that cuz I don't know what I'm doing.I also did a forum search on atc airline recognition here just now and got 1000s of responses. Let's start a new thread and see what comes of it!??Bruce
June 16, 201015 yr Hi Bruce, I still had my original Download which I keep (along with a lot of other 'stuff') on a different P.C. In the cfg.file, the line that reads atc_airliner= is in fact blank, (after the = sign) so FSX picked up on the word Thomson from somewhere else originally. As you say, I wouldn't want to mess with other files within FSX.Probably a good idea to start a new topic. I think you know your way around the forms better than I do, so if you would like to start something I will keep an eye on it when I can - off on hols for a couple of weeks.
June 16, 201015 yr Hi again Bruce, just thought I would Post this before flying off to Corfu - for real! I have come up with an answer to my problem. Found a Program at www.editvoicepack.com. At first this appeared a little involved, but having followed a few instructions, I found out that this Program adds 'words'etc to FSX ATC. I found a file 'agent_name_Thomson', but ended up adding over 7000 wav files to my FSX ATC. Having done this, my call sign 'Thomson' was now working, and it appears ATC is saying a few extra words as well. Instead of saying taxi to runway 4 right, via ....., it said taxi to the threshold of runway 4 right via ....I can't remember hearing the word 'threshold' before. It will be interesting to see what other words may have been added. I have always thought it would be nice if ATC knew whether it was morning, afternoon, or evening. I am pretty sure in real life, that upon first contact from ATC to Plane or Plane to ATC is it common practice to say Good Morning, Thomson XXX, or Good Evening etc etc.I shall leave to others to go to their Web site and explore this program, which I hope should prove valuable. By the way it's a freebie.

Have a great trip to Corfu. The Agean is marvelous!!!Bruce
October 27, 201015 yr Hi ChockLong time no speak, hope your well. I have brushed off FSX again and I've been following your brilliant tutorials and I've managed to get the 737 up, round and down again at Malaga in one piece, so really please with that.I am now trying to repeat the trick at Manchester, but I'm just querying how you worked out the turn to 025 in the Malaga example so I can apply it to Manchester. I have pretty much worked out everything else. Probably something really easy, just cant get my head round it.Still doing the circuits at Woodford as well !! Slowly, getting the hang of it !CheersMatt
