June 21, 201015 yr I'd like to record the audio of my RW flights through my headset line & be able to capture both transmitted and non-transmitted audio... Can anyone recommend some type of jack for this?FWIW it's even better if I can go from my headset line(s) into a video line-in!Thanks,Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g

You want to be careful however, to make sure any recording device you use does not put out RF interference that causes issues with the aircraft radios and avionics.A better bet, if your home is within scanner range of the tower/airport freqs, is to set up a recording of all the ATC comms from home. If you have someone to help you start the recording you can probably record the comms of most flights and also get a bigger picture of what other traffic in the area was doing while you were flying (i.e., were you aware that there was a G-IV in the pattern, etc...).Regards,John

June 22, 201015 yr Most people do not realize that even just receivers transmit some sort of radio frequency. Canada uses a special unit to find out if you are using a radar detector (a "passive" device). Once you are caught, they pull the unit from your car and smash it right there on the side of the road and send you on your merry way, less your smashed radar detector. Even just a scanner can transmit radio signals even though it is just a receiver. As JohnCi said, better to record what is in your area, especially if you are near a busy airport. June 23, 201015 yr Moderator Of course, at the heart of every receiver is an oscillator, which generates a basic signal that is used to drive the RF and IF (intermediate frequency) stages. For that matter, at the heart of every computer is an oscillator... :( Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
June 23, 201015 yr Author I'll need to record stuff outside the range of the airport... and cleanly, too.Ok, here's the game plan:1) Assume recording device is a pocket camcorder with a 3.5mm stereo mic jack.2) Use a 1 female > 2 male 1/4" Y cable (splitter); headset audio cable plugs into female, one male goes into aircraft jack, the other male gets a 1/4" female to 3.5mm adapter.3) 3.5mm adapter plugs into pocket camcorder.FYI audio is a Garmin 430 > Garmin 340 panel in a Diamond DA20. I think this may work! H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
