June 24, 201015 yr I hope someone in the Forum can help me find the remedy to make this error message stop appearing every time I close FS9.The exact wording of the message is: Runtime Error 216 at 00002EC4I used the Forum Search and was unable to find any reference to Runtime Error 216. It pops-up every time I close FS9, and it take several steps to finally get rid of it, including having to go to Task Manager and click on Error a few times, etc., etc....Finally, the error message will disappear. I've put up with it for quite awhile now, and it's finally time to get rid of it, if I can...Have any of you run into this particular error, and do know its origin and how I might make it go away?...Thanks in advance, for any assistance rendered, and I sure look forward to being able to just close FS9 each session, minus these extra steps...leeI'm running Win 7 Ult 64--AMD Phenom 2 955 Quad Core (3.21Ghz)--nVidia GeForce 285--6GB memory--FSUIPC 3.98a

June 25, 201015 yr Author Many thanks Gus and John. I downloaded the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program and it detected four instances of Ad-Aware infection, and removed them. But, unfortunately, that didn't stop Runtime Error 261 00002EC4 from popping up every time I close FS9...I visited the Microsoft Support website you suggested John, and got the following message in return for a search for my runtime error: "There are no documents that match your search for "runtime error 216 00002EC4"I believe this error is only associated with FS9 and on this machine, running Win 7 Ult 64. I have never had it happen at any other time. Before getting this new machine, I ran XP 32 on a machine built in 2003...It's interesting Microsoft has never heard of this runtime error...Anyway, I did a complete scan and all was clean and no apparent malicious problems...I'll keep searching and checking, and perhaps something will turn up that will give me a clue as to why I'm getting this error message...Again, much thanks for taking the time to offer these helpful suggestions...lee
June 25, 201015 yr Hello,Unfortunate you had not a malware responsible for runtime error 216 00002EC4 :)I can be wrong but methink this error is not specific to FS2004 or Win7It's a runtime error .. general protection errorRegards.Gus.
June 25, 201015 yr "There are no documents that match your search for "runtime error 216 00002EC4"The last figure is variable.Just search for "runtime error 216".John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
June 25, 201015 yr I found this info doing a Google search..... June 29, 201015 yr Author I have not been able to remove the Runtime 216 error message as yet, but I'm still trying. For everyone's information, a MS Security Essentials full computer scan did turn up and quarantine the following Trojan, and rated the alert level as High: Trojan: Win32/Bumat!rtsIt was discovered on 6/26/10. I found in my MSE History file that the same Trojan was also found and quarantined on 5/15/10. It's removal, however, did not make Runtime 216 go away. It's always there, whenever I shut down FS9. And, it always takes several keystrokes to make it disappear. Just a small nuisance, really; as long as some greater harm isn't going on, somewhere else!... Only bring this post back up to pass along awareness of this Trojan invader...Also, it let's me thank Gus, John, and Muse again, for taking the time to help me...lee

Given that your system appears to be clean, there are some other possibilities you could look into. If you Google "Runtime Error 216" you will also find numerous "help sites" telling you this is a registry error problem. Some suggest it relates to Internet Explorer, others suggest it is a problem with an uninstalled programme that hasn't cleaned up properly. You may notice that all of these sites just happen to offer you a free registry cleaner download. This is where my brakes go on - you have to ask yourself why they are so keen to give you this free software. My fear is that it is actually something else you might be downloading, something dodgy that will make the matter worse. How can you tell? You can't!The advice might be right so it might be worth running a registry checker, if you want to do that I'd advise you to get one from a magazine disc or a known reputable download site.Best wishes,JohnPS - Trojan: Win32/Bumat!rts is a generic name for something identified by a scan that isn't otherwise known. June 29, 201015 yr Hi, Trojans sometimes embed themselves deeply into your system and hard to get rid of. You think you have deleted the problem file only to discover later it was embedded under several file names into your system. I found a site you may want to look at.. http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/T...2FBumat!rts This is a quote from part of the page.."Technical Information (Analysis)Trojan:Win32/Bumat!rts is a name used for trojan detections that have been added to our signatures after advanced automated analysis. The generic nature of this detection means that the malicious behaviors exhibited by files detected as Trojan:Win32/Bumat!rts are highly variable and may vary from once instance of this detection to the next. No further information is currently available on this threat. However, should we receive a significant number of reports, then a specific detection will be added to our signatures and a detailed analysis will be added to the encyclopedia."John's advice about getting a registry checker from a magazine disc or a known reputable download site is very good, and you should follow that. Good luck with it!
