Shaded patch underneath me as I fly

Featured Replies

Just started noticing the ground textures picking up a slightly darkened cast underneath that moves along with me. This corresponds to the same squarish "footprint" of default scenery that stays directly below when flying with FSAltitude's photoscenery. But now I'm noticing this moving footprint everywhere (except over water) even when flying outside my FSAltitude area. Any ideas? The only thing I've changed recently is installing Captain Sim's 757 (which also installed FSUIPC4). I installed FSAltitude Western Europe a month ago, but didn't really notice this moving footprint everywhere in the world (including in ORBX stuff) until yesterday.John

That is solely due to FSAltitude. That is the way the program is designed to work.Tim Capp's review of the product demonstrates this.Click on this link: AVSIM FSAltitude Review

Thanks for replying, Bob. Yes, I know about FSAltitude's "footprint" and how it works. But the problem I am describing pertains to my non-FSAltitude scenery in the rest of the world. I am simply getting a shaded or slight darkening of the regular scenery textures which corresponds to the size and shape of that footprint and moves along with me as I fly. As it "fills in" parts of the advancing footprint, it is mildly distracting.Wishing you all the best with your recovery, by the way.John

HelloMy guess and it is just that as I dont yet own the FSaltitude product, is that FSaltitude installed a modified Detail1.bmpin /Texture folder. They may have done this to better blend the default terrain colours that show in that area beneath the aircraft that are not effected by the FSaltitude photo textures. That is why you are still seeing this when not in an FSaltitude area.Check that FSaltitude did not in fact make a backup of the Defalt detail1.bmp somewhere.

Still no luck. Quoting from the FSAltitude documentation: "FS Altitude does not install any particularfile outside its own directory of scenery and does not modify any parameter of yourconfiguration." But appreciate the suggestion.John

Hellohave you installed any other scenery addon recently, this is certainly what happens when the detail1.bmp is replaced.do a windows search for detail1.bmp, you may find the culprit.

That took care of it! Thanks much. I had used FTX Aero to install their "coarse" ground detail about a month ago. Switched back to default now and my "problem" is solved. John

HelloGlad it worked for you, REX also installs a detail1.bmp as well
