July 5, 201015 yr Wondering if there's a fix/tweak or way to avoid this happening. I upgrade my PC to one with the power to handle FSX including light bloom fairly well (FPS in the low teens is okay for me) and smoothly. As the sun circles the globe, at night the sun creates this annoying bright light through the earth. Only happens when light bloom is selected.

July 6, 201015 yr Author Don't use the built in bloom, use the ENB Series mod...Thanks for the suggestion Ryan but the effect is not the same.....I've tried both but like the standard FSX bloom effect, now that I have the power the run it. Any further suggestions or is this just how it is? If so, I'll reluctantly use the ENB series bloom because the large sun at night coming from the core of the earth rather annoying.
July 6, 201015 yr Commercial Member Not sure what you're talking about there, I've never seen anything like that at night with ENB. I'm using John Venema from ORBX's config file btw, it's good. The bloom that's in FSX by default is not coded the right way as far as how HDR is done in other game engines and it's basically always going to kill performance. July 6, 201015 yr because the large sun at night coming from the core of the earth rather annoying.Do you use Shader 3.0 mod? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
July 6, 201015 yr Author Yes, I use Bojote's Shader 3.0.......could that be the culprit? I have a GTX 260 video card so may not see any performance/visual impact if I disable and revert to Shader 2.0. What should I do???@Ryan: It doesn't happen if I uncheck light bloom and keep ENB acive; sorry if I confused you. I see the performance impact of FSX native light bloom but I can still fly.
July 7, 201015 yr Yes, I use Bojote's Shader 3.0.......could that be the culprit? I have a GTX 260 video card so may not see any performance/visual impact if I disable and revert to Shader 2.0. What should I do???From *******'s readme file:Shader Model 3.0 MOD for Flight Simulator X v1.5 (Performance Edition)May 20, 2010. By Bojote (******* Altuve) [email protected] ************** W A R N I N G *******************Before you even attempt doing ANYTHING, backup your original WaterConstants.XML file and ShadersHLSL folder or rename them.Doing this steps will allow you to revert to your original files quick and easy. ------------------------------------------------DESCRIPTION===========So, what is this exactly? its a replacement ShadersHLSL folder which has been updated to compile shaders using the newer SM3.0.For compatibility reasons, FSX was released allowing backward compatiblity with older hardware. However, newer video cardsare designed and optimized to execute last generation DX9 shaders (SM3.0) There is a MASSIVE performance improvement when running ATI hardware (specially 5870's), also distant blurries have been reduced via Negative LOD bias + Anisotropic filters and Water Reflections and bumps were improved considerably.INSTALATION===========1) Simply copy the entire contents of this folder to your FSX folder. NO FILES should be overwritten (you should know this if you read the big warning on top)2) Edit your fsx.cfg file and add the following lines to enable Shader 3.0 support: [GRAPHICS] ALLOW_SHADER_30=1 SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=9872430 The SHADER_CACHE_VERSION above instructs FSX to re-compile the shaders, this number has to be changed if the ShadersHLSL is modified. The 9872430 is just a random number you can use ANY number, just remember to change it everytime you update anything INSIDE your ShadersHLSL folder OR even if you UNINSTALL IT, so the shaders are re-compiled again.3) Start your Flightsim. remember, after each 'shader' compilation, it is normal to experiece short stutters, this only happens once, as objects are compiled inside the sim, you can test this by loading an area just after a shader re-compile and then re-run it again and you'll see stutters dissapear.UNINSTALL=========1) If you read the big warning on top, then you should have RENAMED the original files, so simply rename them back to theiroriginal names.KNOWN PROBLEMS==============When under HEAVY fog (no visibility) effects such as fireworks or smoke coming out of industrial buildings will be visible in the distance. This is due to this effects being hardcoded INSIDE FSX and being Shader 2.0 compatible only. This same problem can be experienced when usingFSX in DX10 preview mode. Its barely noticeable, but is the only issue so far. This PERFORMANCE EDITION version has been released WITHOUT the ENBSeries mod for increased performance. Aditionally, some legacy code waschanged to make it SM3.0 compatible to improve performance with ATI hardware when under HEAVY weather. The problem with heavy weather onlyaffects ATI Users, but this mod fixes that problem.SUPPORT=======If you have questions or comments regarding this package, contact me on the AVSIM forums, my name there is bojote.LEGAL =====PERSONAL AND NON-COMMERCIAL USE LIMITATION: Unless otherwise specified in writing, the software provided herein is for your personal and non-commercial use.
