July 5, 201015 yr Hi,I've been reading some FAA handbooks & decided to see if the full range of bad landings is possible (or bad landing conditions perhaps!).I had a brief go at aquaplaning with heavy rain but at a first attempt my brakes seem to be just as effective. Is aquaplaning (or skidding et c.) modelled in FS9?Regards,D

Is aquaplaning (or skidding et c.) modelled in FS9?Regards,DNo it's not modelled, the best software for realistic landing preformance is TSR Autobrake http://secure.simmarket.com/aerosoft-onlin...autobrake.phtmlIt works with all the high end Payware & Defaults - It also works for manual brakingRegards Rob Prest
July 5, 201015 yr As suggested, TSR Autobrake is probably your best bet. It's definitely one of those add-ons for the more hard core simmer though, since it certainly will make landing and coming to a halt more difficult for your big jets. But if you fly your simulated aircraft in places that do get a lot of rain, it's worth having for the realism it creates. However, it's not a simple 'plug and play' affair if you want the best out of it. By default it will simulate the effects of braking on a degraded runway surface in a more realistic fashion for autobraking, but you do have to put individual runway parameters into its database in order to make it have a really accurate stab at doing so for a specific runway. That's not too hard to do by the way (you just type in some numbers and an ICAO code), but the manual could explain it a bit better than it does. Bear in mind too, that it also offers more functionality if you have a full registered version of FSUIPC, with some features unavailable if you only have a free unregistered version of FSUIPC. Also note that TSR Autobrake's gauge only shows up in Windowed mode, although it does still work in full screen, so you might find you have to switch screen modes to do stuff with it, but since it would normally just sit in the system tray, that's not a big issue. It's far more realistic than the default FS is at autobraking, that's for sure, but it won't simulate some of the more unusual aquaplaning effects, such as rubber reversion due to friction-generated steam, but I think you'd have to be insanely hardcore to want that LOL. So it's better than the default FS stuff by a long way.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 5, 201015 yr Author Hi, and thanks to you both.I'm still at the GA stage so I don't suppose I'd use the whole range of functions but from a quick scan of the specs and manual I think it may be what I'm looking for. And at less than fifteen quid I think I can afford it too.Cheers,D
July 5, 201015 yr Commercial Member Hey Al,I'm pretty sure you only have to enter the ICAO code if you want the software to simulate runway slopes. I've never bothered with that part even though I do enter the slope in the FMC. Regards Rob Prest
July 5, 201015 yr Yup, that is true about the runway slope. I assume anyone who wants realistic braking and aquaplaning will probably be the sort of person who wants realistic runway slopes too. Personally, I think TSR is great, and since I tend to fly airliners from a lot of the same airports in FS, it's not really a hassle to stick a bit of runway data.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 5, 201015 yr What a great post guys. I did not even know this kind of thing existed till just now.ThanksCraig
July 6, 201015 yr How does TSR Autobrake simulate aircraft weight? Do you have to define what plane you are using or does it detect this through FSUIPC? And of course... is it also FSX compatible?RegardsAlex
July 6, 201015 yr This is all pretty interesting. I'd be scared to use that addon when landing my aircraft at Sucre SLSU... Fortunately, they close the airport when the weather is bad :( Benjamin van Soldt Windows 10 64bit - i5-8600k @ 4.7GHz - ASRock Fatality K6 Z370 - EVGA GTX1070 SC 8GB VRAM - 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX @ 3200MHz - Samsung 960 Evo SSD M.2 NVMe 500GB - 2x Samsung 860 Evo SSD 1TB (P3Dv4/5 drive) - Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM - Seasonic FocusPlus Gold 750W - Noctua DH-15S - Fractal Design Focus G (White) Case
