Two questions: GPS & Fuel

Featured Replies

First question: On launching FS9 I'm getting the message "Error loadingGPS_Engine. Current flight plan will not be used." I click OK and all works fine. I just want to know how to rid myself of this message.Second Question: In the Change Fuel applet I attempt to do just that and then I get the message that I need to enter a number between 0-whatever. Example, the PMDG 738 wing has a capacity of 8629 lbs each. Currently the load is 5669 lbs. So I highlite the figure and type in 8629. Then I get the message to type in a number between 0-8629. HUH? That's what I have. I also tried using the percentage side with the same result. What gives with that? Thanks for your help.Jim D.

Jim D,1. This problem occurs when you have changed something in a previously saved flight causing the link between your flight plan and your saved flight to become broken. Open the fight concerned and make a new flight plan, possibly the same one, save it (overwrite ? = yes) and then resave your flight. Now your "new" flight plan will be (re-) linked to your (re-) saved flight.2. What you mean by an "applet" is unclear but I assume you mean: Via the drop down menu. I have no direct experience with the plane you're referring to but your problem could have something to do with the "usable" amount of fuel specified in the aircraft.cfg file's [Fuel] section. I've tried to reproduce your problem with all my B737-800s but no such problems were seen.Have a look in the aircraft.cfg file in the [Fuel] section. The first 3 values are the position co-ordinates of the fuel tanks. The 4th value is the fuel capacity in gallons and the 5th value is the unusable fuel as a percentage of the capacity. I have the feeling that your 5th values could somehow be incorrect. Mine are mostly "0.00" but also "9.00" for the center tanks and "8.00" for the wing tanks. Note the original values and then try reducing these values to "0.00" to see if this could be the cause.Good luckHans

Concerning 2: What happens if you type in 8628? Does that work?

Hi,Can't help with the GPS thing but the fuel 100% problem is a minor oversight (aka bug) by Microsoft. It happens in the stock C172 and Mooney (and probably others too). The numbers displayed in the 'applet' are rounded to the nearest decimal place. If you type 100 in the percent box you are actually asking for slightly (a few cc) more than the tanks can hold. There are 3 solutions:1. Use 99%2. In the keyboard assignments there is an entry for 'Add fuel quantity'. Set up a key assignment for this and your fuel will increase by a quarter tank every time you press it. That way you can start a flight with a tank filled to the brim. I use Ctrl+Shift+P.3. Calculate before a flight how much fuel you need, plus a bit for the unexpected, and fly without the dead weight of fuel you are not going to use.Regards,Dave

Or maybe it is that if you ask for the maximum quoted mass (or volume) that gives you 100.1%... I can't remember which off the top of my head & am not currently at a PC with FS9 on it :(D

Hey Guys,I said in my previous post that the 5th position in the aircraft.cfg [Fuel] section, represented a non usable percentage of the tank's capacity. However, this turns out to be the number of unusable gallons and not a percentage of the tank's capacity.Hans

Well I did use the 99.9% approach for the two wing tanks and then filled the center tank with the balance needed for the flight. Funny that when you start a new flight the tank capacity is set to 100%. It's no big deal as I've seen it before. I just wondered why it happens. As far as the GPS error message goes, that is what I suspected. Thanks to all,Jim D.
