If you don't do that, then there is absolutely no assurance that the name you are given is "real". We have to trust the integrity of most of our members and we rely on those members to self police the forums and use the REPORT! function to alert us of disruptive behavior or anything that violates our terms of use. Beyond that, if there is a reasonable solution to this, I am all ears.
July 8, 201015 yr Author I think things here are mostly fine. We get the occasional 'meltdown' but the vast majority of posts and posters are perfectly civilised. :( Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
July 9, 201015 yr Put simply, I am against forcing someone to reveal their real name, especially in a community like WoW or SC2. The only reason I use my real name here is because i have to, and if I ever leave I intend on having my real name account deleted/shut down. Anonymity is a good thing as it protects people, and can even save lives. There are recorded instances of people killing other people in real life over stolen virtual items in games like World of Warcraft. Imagine how many more psychos would try that crap if real names were forced. July 9, 201015 yr Thing is, with WoW, you have to pay for an acount, so you can easily match it with the name on the credit card. I can see how full names can be used as an anti-piracy thing in a support forum, but not as an anti-troll method. I agree with Tim Buckley's ideas on this: http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20100707 Joe Sherrill
