July 10, 201015 yr Flying into EGPH (Edinburgh, UK), EDN NDB is crucial last part of STAR. (Pity that FMS doesn't function to plan the associated hold and outbound leg, but that's another story :( ). What I am finding is that although the FMS recognises EDN for flight planning purposes, so it must be in the FSX database, manual tuning of the ADF on the required frequency doesn't seem to work, i.e. the needle doesn't come alive at all, even well within the NDB's supposed operating range. Does anyone have experience or advice on this, please? Would be much appreciated. Other ADFs have tuned OK, so why not this one, when the FMS seems to think the EDN NDB exists? Many thanks.David Abrahams David Abrahams
July 10, 201015 yr Commercial Member Hi David,I spent some time today flying several departures out of and approaches in to EGPH. The EDN ADF (freq. 341.0) worked flawlessly throughout. I dialed in both ADF1 and ADF2 on EDN and the needles on the RMIs responded exactly as expected, as well as the needles on the EHSI. Are you 100% sure that you set up the RMIs and EHSI correctly? I know this is a rudimentary question, but I have to ask so that we ensure that we're checking all possibilities. Cheers, Henning
July 10, 201015 yr David, did You check the FSX map if this NDB is there? I have the same issue with EPWA approach on RWY 11, after checking out map, I found that NDB is simply missing, that's why I couldn't tune my ADF to it. Obviously FSX/Scenery issue in my case.
July 12, 201015 yr Author Many thanks to you both, Grzegorz and Henning.I certainly did check the FSX map and the NDB is there. Good thought though. My embarrassment is that EDN worked perfectly yesterday! :( I hadn't done anything different, so far as I could tell ... Maybe I was unknowingly out of range :( ... So apologies if this was a false alarm and once again, your time in response is much appreciated.Best wishes,David AbrahamsLondon David Abrahams
