A return to OOM errors

Featured Replies

The nightmare has returned...After a few years free from out of memory errors I've recently had them come back in spades. But despite all the experience I gained battling the first series of OOM errors I am unable to rid myself of them this time. Just like last time, they SEEM to correspond to some Aerosoft Mega Airport installation, but that may only be coincidental. They exist even after uninstalling the Aerosoft software. My specs:FS 9.1Q6600 2.4 (overclocked to 3.2, stable for 1 yr) 1066MHz FSB2G RAM/3G switch installednVidia 9800GX2I've tried:defragging the hard drivedefragging the pagefilerebuilding the pagefilescanning processes with filemon for missing textures/bad landclass/etc.checking for duplicate afcadsCould anyone suggest what else I might try to nail down the problem? Also; could an improperly installed AIRAC update possibly cause the error? (shot in the dark). The only suspcious activity I've been able to find is when I've been flying the PSS777, Filemon report that the 'magdev.bgl' could not be found (as I understand it is the magnetic deviation file for the Fs2004 world). However, this is always the case when flying the PSS777 and did not cause the OOM error before (I have the magdev.bgl installed in the correct folder). I also get the error other complex airliners (PMDG 747, etc.) so it is not limited to the PSS.Thanks to all,- daniel

Could it be an AI texture ?
You don't mention ever making the FS9.exe LARGEADDRESSAWARE ... Is that just an oversight in your post? I am "assuming" that the reason you are using the /3gb switch is you are on a 32 bit OS? That is the majority of your issue right there... How much memory is on your video card? What is your userva= setting in your /3gb ini entry? Have you tried disabling ALL Add-on scenery and adding them back one at a time until you can replicate the issue?-P

Yes, an oversight certainly. I have had a working /3G switch installed for quite a while now, with no OOMs at all. Something has changed that I just can't figure out. My video card has 1G memory (it's actually dual cards) http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_gefor...800_gx2_us.htmlMy userva= setting was something like 3200 (can't remember right now, and away from my home computer). As I said, it was completely stable and then I installed something that made it begin to OOM. Usually you can track filemon and find the source of the problem, and use a scan afcad utility to check for duplicate afcads. I haven't seen any AI textures that have been popping up, or any texture files at all, for that matter. Just wondering what else it could be...Shot in the dark... could the boot.ini file be bypassed or ignored by some chance? Might I have picked up a virus or something that would do this?- daniel

Daniel- I have NEVER experienced an OOM. BUT as well, I have not updated FS9 from 9.0 to 9.1Is it possible there is a connection?(I use UT Can/AK & USA plus Ground Environment and like you, have 2 GB RAM. Additionally I have 3 monitors displaying 3 different FS views- so one might expect RAM shortages.)Alex Reid

Do you use PMDG, PSS or Level D aircraft? I never get OOMs with default aircraft, it seems.- daniel

Yes- PMDG 737-6,7,8,900 & 747. DreamFleet Baron and Bonanza, Aeroworx KingAir and RFP 747/200. Extra 300 is the only default plane I bother with.I recall a beautiful 8 hr flight from Edmonton to Heathrow with nary a hiccup- spectacular passing south of Iceland at sunrise- then spotting Ireland in the distance to starboard. Most fllights in recent times are low and slow with Baron & Bonanza on the British Columbia coast with FS Genesis mesh added.Alex ReidWestJet/PMDG 737s in formation

Then I'm not sure about 9.0 vs 9.1What I can say is that I HAVE had it working perfectly, up until a week or so ago... so I know it's possible. I'm positive it's something I recently installed but just can't figure out what. I thought I understood the problem pretty well, but this goes beyond anything I've seen so far. There must be something else, but I just can't find it. So frustrating... I'd pay $100 for a program that tracked and fixed OOM issues... $100 easily!- d

Hi Daniel Your frustration is palpable and I can only sympathise. I had exactly the same problem and made a similar post some months ago and was quite overwhelmed by how helpful people were although the many ideas (apart from the possibility of upgrading to a 64 bit system) did not solve my problem. I very nearly splashed out
