FMC Approach Select Runway?

Featured Replies

Hi,What is the proper workflow to add the landing approach and runway when assigned.I program everything through the STAR and thought that a normal work flow would be to add the approach and runway when assigned. However when I try this approach I alway end up with the STAR being added to the flight plan again so it's duplicated and I have to CLR the duplicate waypoints. Thanks,Doug

Full names here please Doug. This of the LAT REV as a copy/paste operation. The procedure that you select on the LAT REV screen is pasted to the flight plan at the point where you started the LAT REV.Sometimes, the FMS can tell that you are changing a STAR if you start the LAT REV from a point where the STARs both start but this is rare.Real world, the ATIS tells you what approaches are in use and your first contact with approach control about 40 nm out they tell you what to expect.

Use the LAT REV from the last fix of your flight plane before the STAR or Approach (depending on what your revising). If you do it from a later fix it will paste the star/approach from there repeating from the last entered STAR/APP.

Ok that make sense. But instead of adding the STAR all over again can't I leave the approach off at the end of the STAR then add it when I learn which approach is in use without adding the whole STAR again? Doug Wilson

Yeah, in that case LAT REV on the last fix of the STAR and change the approach by pressing the right LSK's where the approach type is and ignoring the left side where the STAR list is.

After some more experimenting I think I have this solved. If you want to change an approach or hold off on programming the approach until it is assigned go ahead and program the STAR at the beginning of the flight and when ready to enter the approach select the last waypoint in the STAR than select only the approach and insert without reselecting the STAR and only that approach will be programmed with out the entire STAR being replicated. Sometimes you are well into the STAR before an approach is assigned and you don't want to have to repeat the STAR in the FMS.Anyway that's how it's working for me.Thanks,Doug Wilson
