MD11 original

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new at this board and have the MD11 from PMDG and the 747-400 Queen of the skies. I am wondering from what airframe the cockpit layout is taken, because the 747 for example has the autobrakes in front of the captain, where in the simulator the pressure gauge is located... For the MD11, I also would like to know what airframe the "real"airplane is taken from. Does anyone know ?

For the MD-11 it is no specific airframe. We took elements of various flight decks worldwide. While for example the stand-by instrument modeled is used in all MD-11s which used to fly for Swiss International Air Lines, we didn't model their smoke detection system. Lufthansa uses the newer standby instrument too, but they have no passenger MD-11. Then there are the tape-style engine instruments only used by KLM and a certain Asian airline I can't remember. Lot's of stuff has also been taken from a Level-D simulator. So you see it is impossible to use just one airframe if there are so many company options to model.Regards,Markus

The NGX will be the same as described by Markus btw - even though we photo surveyed a real aircraft, that aircraft obviously is only one possible configuration, there will be a bunch of options to select from for the cockpit that make it no one airplane in particular.

Wow, this is actually an interesting post. I didn't know this. Is that why the pass sign and no smoking signs are in the cargo planes?

Pax and no smoking signs are installed on all Cargo aircraft, they still have to carry passengers if either jumpseating or accompanying livestock etc

As a matter of interest Ryan, is the one you got pictures from still flying?

I certainly hope so considering it was an active line 737-800 in March of this year...

I think if I remember right Ryan said they won't release that info. I am sure its a plane that was in a high level maintenance check

Yeah I can't say unfortunately, we have an agreement with the operator to not divulge it.
