Cyber Power FSX Custom Build

Featured Replies

This seems like a pretty good price. Are there any weak or inadequate components?Does anyone have experience with Cyber Power? Reviews on their web site are mostly positive, with a few assembly glitches noted.Comments appreciated. Thanks!BruceCyber Power Custom i7-980 FSX PC -------- $2,856 ____________________________________ * Case: Coolermaster HAF-X Gaming Full Tower Case w/ 1x230mm Red LED Fan, 1x200mm Fans, 2xFront USB 3.0 Port [+131] * CPU: Intel

Looks a really good system. No components I can see are lacking in any areas. Is there a possibility of an evga, asus or gigabyte mobo? These are better quality mobo manufacturerd over msi.

Chris - Thanks for the comments. I just checked that base system and now they are showing this MB as standard:3-Way SLI Support) GigaByte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX Ultra Durable

Yeah that's a better mobo. Can you change it? If you can go for the Asia P6T as it has 6 DIMMs instead of 4.

If you can afford it, go for the Asia P6X58D-E mobo. It's a very good board and easy for OCing. If not, go for the P6T-SE over the UD3R.

Okay, Chris, thanks for the input. The MB is one of those things I really know nothing about. It's easy to pick most of the other parts from reading all the posts.Bruce

Well, that's what I wanted to find out. I don't want to have to redo anything. I read some of the reviews and although the ratings were mostly 5s and 4s some said the very same thing about fixing minor items like unplugged fans. The price seems very reasonable though and Jetline Systems charges about double for their stuff, so I guess an unplugged fan isn't too bad. I just hate to open those cases, because I don't know what I'm doing. Thanks for the input!Bruce

I purchased a Cyberpower system very similar to yours about a month ago. The major differences being, is mine is a i7 975 extreme, over clocked to 4 ghz with a 30 G SSD for the operating system, a 128 SSD for FSX and a 1 Ter WD Black Caviar HD. When I received the system, they forgot to add the WD HD, but did not charge me for it. I soon found the 30 G SSD was too small for the operating system and they exchanged it for another 128G SSD. I purchased a WD Black Caviar Hd and installed it myself. I would recommend a 128 Gig SSD for FSX. I don't have all of my add-ons installed yet, but I have already used about 50 to 60 Gigs of space. Like many other people, I found a fan that was not connected.Other than those few problems, the system runs great and it runs FSX very well. I have about everything cranked to the right, except traffic at about 50% and I get 40 fps over PNW scenery, which used to bring my old system to it's knees. I haven't found any area that I fly in that gets below 25 to fps. The system runs very stable, but a little hot. But that is to be expected as I live in Phoenix, AZ.If you go ahead with your purchase, the first thing after unpacking it, is to remove the left side panel. Mine shipped with a expandable foam pack inserted into the body of the computer to keep the components stable during shipping. Carefully remove it and you are ready to start it up.This is my 3rd Cyberpower computer and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one from them.Good Luck, You will enjoy the system.

Bob - Thanks for the detailed response. Especially the advice on storage and set up. My computers are in my basement which is pretty cool. Even when it's close to 100 here (and our thermostat is set for 78 during the day) I wear a quilted shirt down here.I plan to order this PC sometime this fall. It will more than likely be the last one for FSX. My main issue is fluidity and smooth play more-so than low FPS. I don't fly the PMDG type stuff just the default plus POSKY, IFDG freeware offerings. My current system is a Q6600 @3.6Ghz, Evga GTX 8800 Ultra and WD Raptor HDs. It Just doesn't cut it around NYC. DEN to PHX, SAN, SFO, LAX, SLC, etc all play fairly well with 15% ai and normal ag. I sincerely hope this one does the job! I'm afraid a lot of the smoothness problems, like popping autogen and stuttering terrain, are inherent in FSX though.See you at Sky Harbor sometime! Thanks again to all that replied!Bruce

BruceYour old system is also very similar to my old system, but you had a better OC than I did. I find my new system much smoother and I haven't noticed a stuttering problem at all. I still have the issue of augtogen popping under certain circumstances, but I think that is just FSX. I mostly fly GA like the Eaglesoft Columbia and Cirrus with glass cockpits and the Flight1 Mustang. All are pretty processor intensive. I honestly don't fly into the big airports often, but when I have, I've had no issues. The main thing I've noticed is the increased smoothness and the greater perception of speed on take-off and landings. It took me awhile to get used to the perception of speed on landings which caused me to want to reduce the power to much or too soon and as a result bounced my way down the runway.Have fun with your new system. I'm sure enjoying mine.Bob

Bruce,I'm exactly where you are right now(well might be pulling the trigger a tad earlier) and have a very similar build for FSX in mind. May I ask what made you choose CyberpowerPC over Ibuypower? I know they're linked somehow and I'm just curious how you made that decision. And, I take it that your research has led you to a belief that SLI offers no real benefits for FSX... Nor does RAID 0... True? Thanks and good luck...Woody

Hey, Woody!I saw an add in PC Magazine for Cyberpower and the price just seemed very good. I went to their web site and have been playing around with a custom configuration and they have a ton of options for all the parts, including overclocking. Their overall prices seem to be about half of what Jetline and others charge. I certainly am no expert on this stuff, but this outfit seems very reasonable by today's standards. As for SLI and Raid the conventional wisdom is they are not appropriate for FSX. Nick Needham, until recently, was THE resident guru here on AVSIM and he says SLI is not recognized or utilized by FSX (don't waste your money on a second GPU). I'm not entirely sure what Raid does, but he said absolutely no and that FSX should sit on it's own dedicated HD. I have heard of one or two guys (recently) using both, but THE MAN says no!Best of luck to you on your new system as well!!Bruce (formerly a resident of Orlando!)
