August 3, 201015 yr This is an open letter to the AVSim.com community. I'd like to poll some advice from you all.Recently I searched high and low for the Airhead Virtual Airworks A.C.A. Super Decathlon by Dave Harbold which has been unavailable since his website disappeared off the web. I was very kindly forwarded it by Avechelice of FlightSim.com and managed to collect all the repaints and paint kit that were available off his website by using an Internet Archive website. This aircraft is an absolute jewel. Dave, if you're out there, a million times a million thanks! The documentation is thorough, the modelling is crisp, the artwork detailed, the sounds a treat and the FDE is sublime, realistic and beautiful. This aircraft is a joy to fly by hand and, like the real aircraft, is extremely versatile. We're talking from slipping - real side-slipping! - in and out of bush strips to fast touring to basic aerobatics. I get a real kick out of flying this aircraft, and I can't help cracking the widest grin every time I 'get in.' This aircraft is now my default aircraft in FS2004.Here's the deal. I want to make this freeware gem available for everyone to enjoy once again. I want to upload the aircraft, official repaints and paint kit to FlightSim.com and AVSim.com. However, this is Dave's copyright notice: This aircraft is released as Freeware (Limited Distribution). As limited freeware you are permitted to use this packagesubject to the following conditions,a. Redistributing this package, in whole or part, without consent of the author is prohibited.b. The inclusion of any individual files from this package in another without prior consent of the author isprohibited.c. No fees may be charged for this package, for any reason.d. However, this is Dave's copyright notice:and I have not been able to contact him. So what do you guys think? Do you reckon I should go on ahead and share what I have, with the condition that should Dave request it, all of his work be removed from the Library, or should I respect Dave's wishes from 6 years ago even though a beautiful freeware aircraft would be lost forever?I'd like to know!Pip! Pip! Tally ho!- AntaresSimple answer... Unless and until you get Dave's permission to do so, don't! If you do, we'll remove it until such time as you do get his permission. I know that is probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but the fact of the matter is that AVSIM does protect author's copyrights and their wishes as far as distribution is concerned. So, when you get Dave's authorization, please forward it to [email protected] and then upload the file(s).And... adherence to copyright and the violation of AVSIM's policies (or not) are not subject to approval by the community or a committee vote.
August 3, 201015 yr Dave came to work for us way back then and totally disappeared??? Something about a divorce....???What Tom said.. :(

In all honesty that's the answer I expected to hear. It's a shame, but... copyright is copyright I guess. Thank you all for personally answering my post.Cheerio- Argy
August 3, 201015 yr Wait a minute, I thought the term "airhead" has a derogatory reference to members of the female persuasion who happen to be gifted with more beauty than intellect. Someone please help me out here. This is all getting rather confusing.Tony Best regards from Tony, at the helm of the flying desk.

If you get his permission we'd be more than happy to accept the files in the library. Sadly without that permission from the author we can't.Someone on these or other FS forums might have active contact details for him. Better yet he might himself stumble on the topics if he's still checking FS forums occasionally.Wait a minute, I thought the term "airhead" has a derogatory reference to members of the female persuasion who happen to be gifted with more beauty than intellect. Its a pity as it is a very nice little GA to fly around in FS9.
