August 3, 201015 yr I'm curious as to for what platforms RC5 is being build as we speak. Reason for my question is this: I still run FSX on WIN XP (x64). This because FS9 and FSX were designed for XP/Vista (Vista released late 2006, early 2007) and not for WIN7 (released 2009). Some simmers run their FS under XP, others under WIN7 or Vista.Now...Vista isn't really an option I guess when looking to it's development and short-lived lifespan (3 years). WIN7 might be an option, however... the overhead on ones system is larger with WIN7 than with XP (all goodies I really don't need for my FS OS).Now I'm one of those guys who'd like to get a speech engine build into RC5. However...when looking for alternatives, like VoxATC, it turned out that some speech engines won't work on XP x64, but do work on Vista/WIN7 x64.I'm not that keen on changing my OS and re-install everything...that'll take me the best part of a day for sure with all the add-ons, tweaks etc...So as to my question: is RC5 being designed with a speech engine so I can talk to ATC Y/N? and if yes, will that particular function also work with WIN XP x64 or only Vista and WIN7 (x64)? August 3, 201015 yr HelloSpeech engines (microsoft Sapi) run just fine on XP64, there has been a lot of misinformation regardingthe MS speech engine under XP64.I have been running sapi5.1 under XP64 without problems it installs fine under C:\Program Files (x86)\The control panel for speech is found in this control panel item (highlighted)Here is Shoot v1.6.4 controlling Radar Contact 4 , VoxAtc X also works fine as does Multicrew experience. My TTS voices from ATT, cepstral and scansoft also work without issues.
August 4, 201015 yr Author hi, thanks for your reply. It's weird then that even the developer of VoxATC says that he can't get SAPI to work under WINXP X64.Do you have any particular installation instructions? Did you just buy VoxATC, installed it under WIN XP x64 and got it working? When I tried it, I got an error. THis is what I got (posted it under the VoxATC forum here:I get the following error after installing VoxATCX (latest version, downloaded yesterday)Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {41B89B6B-9399-11D2-9623-00C04F8EE628} failed due to the following error: 80040111. at VATrainer.Form1.Form1_Activated(Object sender, EventArgs e)My system is Windows XP x64 SP2 with latest updates..NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0SP2 and 3.5SP1 are installed. Also all MSXML versions and C++ 2005 & C++2008.Installed MS SPeech 5.1 just now, but that didn't help either. I emailed VoXATC yesterday evening about this, but haven't received any reply (like a " message received"). They should be based in the UK, right? So hardly any timezone difference there :)The error indicates a SAPI.DLL error (that's what the CLSID is) HelloSpeech engines (microsoft Sapi) run just fine on XP64, there has been a lot of misinformation regardingthe MS speech engine under XP64.I have been running sapi5.1 under XP64 without problems it installs fine under C:\Program Files (x86)\The control panel for speech is found in this control panel item (highlighted)Here is Shoot v1.6.4 controlling Radar Contact 4 , VoxAtc X also works fine as does Multicrew experience. My TTS voices from ATT, cepstral and scansoft also work without issues. August 4, 201015 yr SAPI does work on XP x64, but it is far less advanced than the versions included in Win7. I ran FSX on my XP 64 system and got the speech to work when I first go FS2Crew Voice Commander for the Maddog, but it was very tempermental, and some speech commands flat out never got recognized. When I switched over to Win 7, it worked beautifully. Much easier to use, recognized my words far easier than it did in XP, and those commands that never seemed to work worked perfectly in Win 7. Or/and, what do you recommend if I decide to switch to WIN7 regarding good voicerecognition software to be used with RC4/ Eric [FSX on Windows7 64-bit]
August 6, 201015 yr HelloWhat I recommend for voice control of Radar contact under Windows XP64 is in the screenshots I posted. It is free, my Shoot 1.6.4 profile for Radar Contact uses the same voice commands as SuperATCIt has a great Profile editor available for it, The PTT switch in Shoot also works better than SuperATCAll without the downside of being constantly spammed by the Its your Plane author.

Or/and, what do you recommend if I decide to switch to WIN7 regarding good voicerecognition software to be used with RC4/SAPI does work, you will be able to speak to your computer and use voice command stuff like the new FS2Crew , but it will be frustrating, at least it was for me. You have to speak very clearly and slowly and have a good mic set up. I ran into problems because I like to have the engine noise loud and i ran into some limitations with FS2Crews Maddog version. I would indeed recommend upgrading to WIN7, because with the new nvidia drivers, the highmemfix tweak, and the other tweaks that have been "discovered" in the past few months, FSX in WIN7 is as stable as it has ever been. Mix into the superior voice recognition software, and the fact that MSFT and other manufacturers are no longer supporting Win XP (the Win XP nVidia drivers are inferior to the Vista/7 versions), there is no longer a need to stay in XP for FSXs sake (no matter what NickN says).
