ATTENTION: Image Posters Take Note

Featured Replies

We have been pretty lax over the last 8 months or so in two areas related to image posting on the AVSIM forums. We have found hundreds of files that exceed our 200K file size limit. We have had some images posted as large as 800K - 900K in size. We have also allowed images to stay on the system much longer than our policy of 12 to 15 days. Those two things have changed as of the opening of the new forums. We will be doing periodic monitoring of image sizes. If an image posted is over 200K in size, it will be immediately erased from the system. If an image is older than 15 days, that too will be removed. Please abide by our size restriction, or you will find your post without an image. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tom -Perhaps you could explain why images associated with posts are removed after the set number of days. Most often the images are pertinant to the problem and/or solution. If they are removed, anyone needing that info later is not able to see the image - which might be crucial to solving the problem. Just curious as I have not run across this elsewhere.

Dave,We established that policy to save on diskspace in the good 'ol days. We are going to have to look at again in light of our system size today and our disk real estate.

Understood - hope you will find it possible to retain images for the reasons I stated.

Does removing images include images hosted on someone else's website? Also, IPB has a way to resize images so as to not break the tables or the forum. I am not sure if it is built in or an add-on, but it does work wonders.

I agree with WhiteKnight. The VA I belong to (shameless commercial, Virtual Pilots Association, www.virtualpilots.org) requires you to post your image using an offsite (photobucket, etc.) website. That way you don't have to worry about storage space.Joe
