Headset question

Featured Replies

Hello there,Bought FS2CREW for Maddog recently, and I have yet to complete a flight. Looks and feels brilliant though. Two main issues:1. Headset.I use a USB headset in addition to the regular speakers. On the FS2CREW config I have chosen the USB headset, and I have pressed the HS button, but the sound still appears in the speakers.I have tried maybe 5-6 times total, and one time it was OK, other times the voice was in the speakers. Cannot find out what I did differently, when it worked ?2. FO doesn't say anything, just goes to work.Quite rude, he doesn't even ask me how my day is ....Rolling%20Eyes.gif I have seen other people in the forum mention this, so I will study the posts more for an answer, it ssems to be a common problem.Using:Maddog 2008FS9WinXPLatest MS SAPIPeter, SAS1376

Hi Peter,Even with Headset selected, not every sound will go through the Headset, including some FO sounds (such as those where the FO would not be wearing his headset to begin with prior to engine start). The checklists, however, will always come through the Headset if the Headset is selected.FO not asking about your day: That's subjective... just pretend he asked you in the crew room.Cheers,

HAHA that's a good one. What I meant was, is the missing greeting indicative of a problem, and will he then stay silent throughout ? Because if that is the case, I might as well restart the whole system now rather than wait for a long time just to find out there is a problem. On the headset: I realise not all sounds go through there. But if I hear the FO in the speakers, and I want swithch him/her to the headset, I should be able to switch it in the FS2CREW config panel, right ? I mean, I am changing back and forth between the two sound cards, but the FO stays in the speakers once he has started there. Does the audio device have to be selected once and for all at the beginning - or ?It would be nice if you could indicate what is normal behaviour, like:FO only greets sometimes, not always (true/false)You can change audio device on the go (true/false)If the FO doesn't reply, start over (true/false)Thanks,Peter

Hi Peter,You're making things complex :-)Please do this:1. Select your Headset audio device in the CFG Panel.2. FS2Crew will remember your selection so you don't need to enter it each time you load Flightsim.3. You should never need to touch the audio device selector in the CFG panel again.4. You can swap between Headset and Speakers "on the fly" by simply pressing the HS (Headset On/Off) button on the FS2Crew Main Panel. If the HS is selected to off, the FO sounds are automatically routed through your speakers. For other stuff, just follow the tutorial to the letter. If you hear one sound, you should be able to hear them all. If there was a problem with the audio engine, none of the sounds would work.Cheers,

Just wanted to add something that may help. I bought a Steelseries 3H headset which has a soundcard in the USB plug. I´ve had issues with no sound being routed through the headset regardless of how I choose sound settings in MSFS, Win OS or the config GUI for FS2C. The same was true for other games I tried as well.I suddenly noticed that if I pulled out the USB headset and then re-attached it, Win XP didn´t recognise it as a Steelseries headset, but rather as a generic USB PnP headset and suddenly everything worked as it should, go figure.

I know, I'm a complex dude...3. This was useful to know. I managed to complete a flight with the FO most of the way, however, before the descent checklist, she fell asleep, and didn't wake up again. Probably some call I missed. Thanks for the reply - don't get me wrong. it's a really cool add-on ! Peter
