September 7, 201015 yr Hi folks,I just read an article that the German Airline Air Berlin is testing new approach procedures which are based on GLS/GPS system.Article (written in German)Since 2007 all delivered 737s to Air Berlin are equipped with GLS/GPS and since 2009 AB is allowed to use this.My question is, will this be simulated in the upcoming NGX? or maybe as patch in the future?I know that you developers are very limited to what FS can do and what not :)best regardsJan
September 7, 201015 yr Never heard of that, what is the difference to the normal GPS based rNAV approach? best regards, Alexander Barger
September 7, 201015 yr Here in Brazil stuff like that is also being developed. They are calling it baroaltimetric RNAV procedures, where lateral positioning is given to the GPS (with the help of a LAAS) and vertical positioning is a altimeter duty. Felipe Andrade at SBSP
September 7, 201015 yr Uhh, I am pretty sure there have been other (German) carriers who have dealt with GLS this way before AB... Anyways: Never heard of that, what is the difference to the normal GPS based rNAV approach?RNAV is (laterally) GPS driven but at the end of the day it's just another non-precision approach procedure. GLS will, AFAIK, give you complete lateral and vertical guidance (indications similar or identical to ILS LLZ/GP). Furthermore this system allows steeper angles as well as curved approaches as opposed to a classic ILS which will be straight for obvious reasons. The GLS will use additional ground based antennas though, unlike the usual GPS you can use for any old-fashioned RNAV approach. These will add significant precision to the position data.
September 7, 201015 yr I would also like to see this in the NGX.Doesn´t matter, that Air Berlin is the only Airline, which is allowed to use GLS at this time. Next years, it´s going to be standart.regardsMax
September 7, 201015 yr Never heard of that, what is the difference to the normal GPS based rNAV approach? http://www.b737.org....ght_InstrumentsScroll down a bit to "New Approach Formats". Great information on the more advanced RNAV stuff. Joe Sherrill
September 8, 201015 yr HI,here another article on the the new approach type and its testing by the DLR (sorry, again only in german). They say the approach might be approved rather soon and could be in use at EDDF by the end of the year already!http://www.airliners.de/technik/forschungundentwicklung/dlr-testet-praezisionslandesystem/22070I hope we can use them in the upcoming 737NGX!Regards,Christopher Volle Regards, Chris Volle i7700k @ 4,7, 32gb ram, Win10, MSI GTX1070.
September 8, 201015 yr Hopefully this is something they include- GLS/LPV approaches are becoming more and more common.Regards,Matt S. Thanks! Matt S.
