Scenery add ons query from a noob.

Featured Replies

Hello,I'm a noob and I'm a little confused about the scenery folders I've downloaded today.I've obtained the various folders for the Californian cities created by the blueskyscenery developers, which have thrown up 2 questions : -1)In the "Read Me" notes it states that after you have installed the scenery folders, you go into FSX and in settings you click on the scenery pack you've installed to commence flying. However, I wanted to fly from Burbank to Long Beach, both airports have separate download folders, so, which scenery folder do I click on, the airport I'm taking off from, or, the airport I'm landing at, unless, you can click on both scenery packs, although, it doesn't state that anywhere in the FSX manual.2)Some of these scenery folders you can download I need to alter the res settings to high, however, if you fly from say, Los Angeles to San Fransisco, the LA airport is high res, but, I assume that when you land at San Fran, you've gone back onto the default textures which are low res; would this affect frame rates significantly ??Any ideas or suggestions please ??Cheerz.Transport Steve.

Welcome to the forums. To add new scenery, once you've copied the folders you've downloaded into e.g. your FSX\Addon Scenery folder, you need to go into the Scenery Library and "add" the scenery - so that FSX knows it's there and will include it.Once you've added it, that's all you need to do. Just start a flight as normal, from an airport within the scenery region (obviously!) and you should see your new scenery. No need to click on any settings button or whatever. The scenery is just there, provided you add it as I mention above. There's a FAQ on the bluesky site, with a link to a description of how to add in FS9 - it's similar in FSX, if seeing it explained with screenshots would help. Not sure I understand Q2, but in the graphics options in FSX you can change various settings - if they are set too low, you won't see all the detail in your new scenery. Give it a go, see how it looks, tweak. There are lots (and lots!) of posts here about how to get the most out of FSX graphically.Hope that helps.

Your same question posted at Flightsim has been answered there also.

Many thanks Paul, I did look at the FAQ on the bluesky website, but, they never ask the questions you have in your head, so, I couldn't find anything relevant to my query, that's why I came on here.Q2 came about because on the bluesky website they did state that the older scenery areas they have created were obviously done in FS9, the newer stuff is done in FSX, subsequently, you need to change the graphics settings accordingly between normal and high to take into effect the difference in the texture resolutions, I think I'll do some tweaking and see what happens. Thanks also to Opa, as I have downloaded the folders from both libraries, I decided to ask the same question on both forums to double up the possibility of answers.Cheerz. If you are using Blue Sky for FSX only, just download the 'Chiliview' sceneries, they are specific for FSX and no tweaking is needed.

Thank you, I've had a look at these, there are rather a lot of them, I may have to download the areas that just have airports / airstrips in them specifically.Cheerz. Transport Steve.
