September 18, 201015 yr Hello,Over the last year I have installed a number of add on AFCAD packages. In addition, I have a decent amount of payware airports (FSDT, FlyTampa, Imaginesim...). I have found that a number of airports are missing approach/runway data. The problems comes in a variety of forms and I am just looking for a way to fix everything.*Default GPS shows ILS but ATC gives you a visual approach*GPS shows no ILS and ATC gives you a visual approach*You are assigned an ILS approach but ATC instructs you to fly very from from the airport (+100 miles), forgets about you and eventually cancels your flightplan. For the most part, I try to leave airports alone but from time to time I have have adjusted parking features. Most of my edits have been done in AFX but I am starting to use ADE more. My understanding is AFX and ADE remove various things when they are saved and the stock data must be restored. Here are the questions:Should all AFCAD files contain approach and ILS data? FSDT says that don't touch the stock approaches and they should still be there. But doesn't a new AFCAD disable all of the data stock data?If fixing this issue just a matter of going in to all of my add on AFCADS and adding in the stock approach data and navaids? What happens when an author also included a CVX file - what info is does it contain? What happens when an author also included a CVX file - what info is does it contain? Not all airports contain approach or ILS data, so why would all AFCADs contain such data? Not too many dirt strips need a coupled approach to land... So don't associate "AFCAD" files to just the big airports. When making a new airport file there are many DELETE parameters than can be a part of the replacement file, but that are not necessary to make a replacement file. If FSDT says they do not use all the DELETE commands, I believe them. If you are concerned about a particular file, or many files, it's easy to decompile the add on airport file and see what DELETE parameters have been used. If a file did delete the stock data and not replace it, it's easy to remove the appropriate DELETE commands from the add on file, recompile and use. That way, since nothing is deleting the stock data it would appear.CVX files deal with terrain items and have no affect on airports sitting on said ground.
September 18, 201015 yr Moderator I might add that going to the dedicated support forum for ADE9X at http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/index.php would get the author(s)' attention directly. There's nothing more satisfying that learning something directly from the folks who code the program... :( Fr. September 19, 201015 yr ADE9X took a philosophy that in normal use, you start with a stock FSX airport and then modify it via ADE. In support of that ADE will in general delete all the stock airport and exclude all the stock objects. That includes approach data. If you don't change anything, and just compile and install the ADE airport the deletes/excludes are all there but the data is just replaced by the ADE file, so no change is seen.Where problems come in, is when an airport is opened from AFCAD BGL or XML, instead of stock, and the source of that AFCAD was a program that doesn't use the ADE philosophy. ADE will still do the deletes, but if the original stock data isn't in the BGL/XML that was opened, then there will be missing data when the resulting ADE BGL is installed. ADE provides means to fix that but you should have a good understanding of what is in your source AFCAD BGL file before proceeding. scott s..
September 19, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the replies. I'll comment on the suggestions after I am done with the flight I am on right now. I just wanted to point out what I am currently experiencing.I am flying from Bermuda to Houston right now. I have not personally modified KIAH but I did download a AFCAD for it created by Ray Smith. I have not modified his AFCAD. His files were released January 2009 and the date modified for his file on my system is Jan 2009.Here are my ATC instructions:1. Getaway 412, Descend and maintain FL3002. Getaway 412, Descend and maintain 16,0003. Getaway 412, You are 80 miles east. Turn left heading 175 Expect vectors ILS runway 33R approach(after several minutes and well over the Gulf, 125 miles from KIAH)4. Getaway 412, Turn right heading 2055. Getaway 412, IFR Flightplan is canceled, radar service terminated...What is causing this? I didn't do anything to this airport beside add a AFCAD from a reliable developer. I have experienced this all over the place and it is driving me crazy? That has been one of the nagging issue for me with FSX and it seem to be getting worse. As for the mentioned of what is deleted, how can I view the information.Keep in mind, I was great with AFCAD, AFCAD2; AFX makes sense to me but ADE seems to be a whole different ball of wax. I am sure the problem is partly due to user error but the above experience doesn't add up - all I did was drop the files in to FSX.Fr. Bill, I will head over there if I can't figure it out based on what I find here. AVSIM is always my first stop. And BTW, when I say AFCAD, I mean any .bgl that is similar in nature. AFCAD is kind of like Kleenex in the FS world. And yes, I am well aware that all airports do not have ILS approaches.
