Lately we have been seeing a lot of "shelving FS2004" posts, which are nothing more than thin veils on a rant on how so and so spent so many hours trying everything, and they still aren't satisfied so their shelving FS2004.Which then starts a new thread on how someone tries to help and convince the person to "stay". And so on and so forth.Hey. If you don't like FS2004, then fine. No skin off my nose. However, I really don't see the need for an announcement.Hey, if I had a sub-ghz system, I would be flying FS2002 as well. But if you want to go back to FS2002, then great. But don't use it to make a final "parting shot" at Microsoft on how blah blah blah. There are many of us who are very satisfied with the product, and we all know it's idiocyncracies and issues. Do you expect a mass exodus from FS2004 because you made the trumpet call?Almost all of us are aware that we probably would get superior performance from FS2002. Yet we also recognize that FS2004 has a slew of features that we choose to live with. I mean, I could get 99FPS constant on FS98. But you will NEVER see me fire up that sim again. I wouldn't be able to last 15 Min on it.Some of us also realize that 30FPS with sliders right is not a realistic expectation just because we could get that with FS2002.So hey. Those of you "fed up" with FS2004, fine, go in peace, FS2002 is a fine fine piece of software. But please, don't make your departure a bully pulpit to rehash what has been said over and over and over again.Thanks.

And this isn't YET ANOTHER thread on the same boring old subject? You're bored today, aren't you, Will. Go flying, pal!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

I am. I'm flying the new Microsoft Tour flights that were released. Thanks.

Well I for one, agree wit Will.People seem to think that going back to FS2002 is something to make public. Do you announce when you go to the bathroom? I would hope not. So who cares about whether you're going back to FS2002 or not.Kudos to Will for speakin the truth.

Announcing that you're going back to FS2002 is more of a cry for attention in my book. It's like when a regular person on a forum announces that they are leaving the forum so that they can read all of the "please don't leave" posts. You couldn't get me to go back to FS2K2 for anything. I'm done with flat clouds and blue sunglasses.Tim13

"Announcing that you're going back to FS2002 is more of a cry for attention in my book."Yep, happens every 2 years when a new MSFS is released. Some folks are unhappy, so they head to the forums with their frutration. Human nature... and OK. To a point.I recall these same kinds of posts after FS2K2 came out. The first few months of forum chatter included many more "rants" than we're seeing this time.Of course, that same "buggy" sim is the one many say they are going back to.Good luck to them... I sincerely hope they stay with FS9. I could never go back (and I never really had a problem with FS2K2).

Some people just have this uncontrollable need to do harm to this community and Microsoft. They hope that their posts will flood these forums making them useless to others and that people by seeing that flood of posts will stop buying Microsoft products thus destroying that company.Maybe not all think like that (there will be a fair share of copycats) but that is I think the reasoning of quite a few of them.I doubt many even tried seriously to get it working properly, and had far too high expectations of product performance on their systems when they acquired it.

Actually I think that these forums are for who ever to say whatever so long as there is no real harm to anyone...what's the point of having forums if we start censoring complaints. You gotta take the good with the bad. yes I do agree that the "I'm leaving and going back to" posts are a final cry for attention, or they are a real "I'm fed up and I'm going to let somebody know about it" post. As a business, these are the posts I would want to hear about (if there is a problem), because as anyone who is in a retail setting knows..it's the people who are mad and do - "leave without saying anything" are the ones who can do the most potential damage by word of mouth alone. Referals and personal recommendations can carry the most weight to the potential customer(s). It's nice to hear all the adda-boys and nice jobs -- we love your work...but you need to hear any other issues even more so.Just the other side of coin :-)

JeffI am not in the retail business but have heard from people who should know that most of the dissatisfied customers don't complain, they just don't come back.If they complain, at least there's a chance.

Jeff is correct. >people who should know that most of the dissatisfied customers don't>complain, they just don't come back.Studies have shown that for every dissatisfied customer, that customer will tell at least 10 other people about how poor the product/service is. This can be very damaging to a retailers reputation.Studies have also shown that for every happy customer, this customer will tell at least 3 other people of the good product/service etc.Excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom now... :-lolOh yeah, I'm ditching FS2004 as well.... :-lolThese forums are for discussing Flight Simulator.People can ask questions, praise developers, and yes complain about problems related to flight simulator. Some people take other posts way to serious, and those individuals should really learn how to calm down and turn their head when they see something they don't like.Happy flying everyone..... RJ

Here is the deal. We have this free forum to express views freely. If the caption indicates someone is reverting to "x" for what ever reason, and it bothers you, then dont read it. No one is harming anything or anyone by expressing negative views about FS2004. It has problems, and for those who are fortunate not to experience these problems then great. I read several positive user posts and am thanful for that because I may get something from them to help me.Aside from the performance issues mentioned by some with lower system specs, this release has many deficiencies, and if they are not vented here or elsewhere then where? I understand the MS team read these forums so they may benefit from such feed back. It is a continuing process of development, beta or otherwise So all those who dont like criticism stay away. I myself have posted things about 2004 which doesnt work well for me, and still doesnt. I want to make it clear I am not a MS basher, I have invested in MS stock over the years and done very well. I was and am still vehemently opposed to the anti trust suit brought against MS by the previous US admin., which thankfully seems to be coming to an end. Does this mean I or anyone else cannot point out problems with their products from time to time? Absolutely not!And please no new threads on the pros and cons on the anti trust fiasco :-)Bill

Is this the scenario??Flying final on 9R a B747 was slowly passing me on 9L and touchdowned just beofre me. His tires gave off a puff of smoke and when the nose wheel touched down another small puff of smofe. Quite brilliant colors at sunset too, BUT the framrates were BELOW 50 !!! DAMnED so I went back to FS98, Im getting a beautiful 78 fps. and IM NEVER GOING BACK TO FS9 ?? because I LOVE THOSE FPSsI want BIG FPSlike what?Is this the way of our world ??Allen

Allen...That rather flippant response is why every release of MSFS sees the forum get split between two camps.I don't think anyone is crying about not getting 50fps. I'd say most simply want to see the same peformance given the same "view" between both sims. Most don't know how to express themselves, falling short of the "perfect" standards some seem to set in this forum, and get dissed as whiners. Only person who never seems to falter and never seems to be flippant is Chris. I don't always agree with his answers, but his presence here is one of this forum's saving graces. He always tries to humor those with issues, and patiently leads them through the same steps of advice. I've never seen him once author threads like this.Sadly, threads like this cause people to think it's either one or the other--you're either happy with FS2004 or you're a "whiner". No one's allowed to straddle the fence. And posts like yours and the one which opened this thread come along which oversimplify the issue. This leaves many people which could benefit from our help not wanting to ask....who would if this forum turns into another "diss the whiners" club?Through a combination of many settings, my sub GHZ system is getting performance exceeding 40 fps away from the cities--lower that to 25 or so if I use 3-d clouds--no biggie since fps has to fall into the teens for me to care. No longer am I seeing a big fps drop when I approach airports, other than those near sprawling cities. The final adjustment for me was a very simple one--I reduced mesh to 50. This meant nothing in FS2002's performance...and caused the scenery to look worse, IMHO. But in FS2004, I can hardly tell a difference and even in flatland, I've seen an improvement of about 15 pct. in performance.Flew into Salt Lake City the other night--not a drop from my fps lock, which I keep at 25 when I'm not running Autogen.Still, for long haul flights, I tend to prefer FS2002....Why? Well, it's not because I hate FS2004, or Microsoft, or any such thing. It's simply because I enjoy long haul flights better in FS2002. For one, I can use Flight1's gps, which I really like due to it's simple "direct to" function combined with a "zero" performance hit. For another, FS2002's smaller memory footprint allows me to "multitask" better--no fault of FS2004. It's a question of $40-50... I'd rather spend it on my family vs. computer memory. My choice.Short haul flights, especially ultralighting and Microlighting, along with commuter flights--FS2004 serves as a great platform. It also loads faster, allows me to experiment with different scenery locations faster, and of course has a most realistic sky.If you read between the lines of some of those "leaving" FS2004, you'll note they are not condemming it or being critical. For whatever reason, they prefer FS2002. They didn't expect performance to be poorer than FS2002, but for them it is. Here I agree with Jeroen--all too often, I think it comes from misuse of the slider settings. But when people are so eager to jump in and call them whiners--who is going to "listen" as far as the best slider settings to try?-John
