September 15, 200322 yr Hi,Can't help re the contrails, but for cfg file:For Windows XP users the fs9.cfg file is now located in Drive_Letter:Documents and SettingsUser_NameApplication DataMicrosoftFS9. This is a hidden folder by default so you need to modify the folder options via the control panel: go to the view tab and check the "Show hidden files and folders" option For Windows 9x users the fs9.cfg file is located in Drive_Letter:WindowsApplication DataMicrosoftFS9If you access this file often, you may wish to run a shortcut to it on either your desktop, or in the main Flight Simulator 9 folder. September 15, 200322 yr I've read that the contrails falling to earth are a problem with certain add on aircraft. Is it possible you added one recently?
September 15, 200322 yr I think its got something to do with a contrails effect line put in wrong in the in its aircraft.cfg file of the aircraft in question..To to remove and backup if there is any smoke effect line in the cfg file and se if that cures it.Reason for it is that it conflicts with FS9's own contrails I think.

September 15, 200322 yr Here's how you fix the contrails falling to the earth problem. When you added a new plane, especially if it had its own self-extracting .exe program, it probably had written over one or both of the default fx_contrail files in the effects folder.Go to the Effects folder and look to see if the dates for the fx-contrail_l.fx and fx_contrail_s.fx files are at least 2003. When I did this, I noticed that one of them (can't remember) was 2001. So, I went back to the installation disk (disk 1 actually), and copied and pasted the fx_contrail files back to the Effects folder in fs9.When I did this, I got my contrails back.Hope this helps.--Matt
September 25, 200322 yr Matt hellllo there :)well Ive had a look at both dates of the contarils file in the Effects folder and both are 2003. Ive also had a look at the cfg file in fs9 and couldnt really find anything. Hopefully this topic stays OPEN cause i would love to get this sorted although like I said in my first posting of the problem it doesnt really create a BIG problem just a visual incorrection.Let us know if you have any other ideas.AMD ATHLON 2000 XPWindows xpwith 512mb Ram and a lovely ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP Card :)Juan JAG
September 25, 200322 yr Do a search for FX_Contrail on your entire FS folder. You may have additional effects installed in an aircraft folder, or misplaced somewhere.TIP: For the rest of you - make your existing working original FX_Contrail files *read only* when installing older (or any) planes to prevent them from being overwritten. An ounce of prevention... [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
September 25, 200322 yr Juan JAG,Hope you got the contrail problem fixed. Sorry for taking so long to respond.Since you suggest that the fx_contrails files may not have been overwritten, a solution to your problem escapes me. The suggestion I made in an earlier post worked for me. Try Gridley's suggestion, or perhaps make a backup of your fx_contrail files and reinstall them from the installation disk.Take care,--Matt
