  1. I'd be telling the flight attendant to just park the bar cart right beside my seat! B)
  2. When you install FS9 AI packages into FSX, you loose your FSX default AI. Be it right or wrong, I installed the World of AI packages I wanted and then ran AI Flight Planner and selected convert FS9 AI packages to FSX. Everything went smooth and my FSX default AI came back with the World of AI packages. It was far easier and not at all that messy!!
  3. Got to love the Twotter!!! I for one am glad that they are building new airframes again. Chuck CYXU
  4. How is it you can list your VA as a Vatsim partner? I thought there were certain criteria you had to meet for that?
  5. This is not so much a story of flying a PMDG aircraft but a story of how I got my first payware aircraft, the 737NG. First off, there s something about my wife you should know. She doesn't like anything to do with me spending money...she doesn't like anything related to aviation since it takes up too much of my time and she absolutely hates anything related to me spending more time on a computer. :( I guess it was back in either 2003 or 2004, I was getting into simulation and wanted a good realistic add on to challenge me. So for those of you who weren't keeping track, I wanted to spend money on an aircraft to use on my computer...all three things that the wife doesn't like.I weighed my options and shopped around, if I am gonna catch hell for it, it better be worth it. I was going back to college for a work related technical course at the time but once my mind was set, I ordered the 737NG, downloaded it and installed it...just what the doctor ordered.Then...a few weeks later as I come through the door after a day at college, the wife asks me while holding the Visa bill..."did you buy something online a few weeks ago?".Hmmm, play dumb...."online...a few weeks ago...hmmm". :( Then the best part, she says," Yes, some book or something for your course?".Never one to miss an opening, " Oh yes, the book."Can you get the money refunded from work she asks? No, it was highly recommended but not on the mandatory list, I say as the first bullets are dodged.Oh well, it was only around $50 she says as she walks from the room.I reach over to pick up the Visa bill from the counter and sure enough, there is a charge. From Precision Manuals Development...I wonder what other "manuals" they have that I could make use of?She eventually found out when she went on my computer one day and saw the PMDG load manager shortcut on my desktop...but she got over it quick enough.Chuck CYXU
  6. Another thing worth mentioning is AI traffic. If you wish to fly with AI traffic, take some time to install some packages from World of AI. This will remove the default AI traffic which is a real frames killer and use the World of AI models instead. This alone will improve your frame rates. Also, it has been said that the sweet spot for FSX is when your CPU hits 3.0 Ghz. I went from a Core 2 Duo at 2.18 Ghz to a core i7 at 2.66 and saw little change. When I overclocked the i7 to just over 3.0 Ghz, it was like flipping a switch. Maybe investigate what you can get your CPU to do in an overclock. Goggle search your CPU and motherboard in regards to overclocking. You may need to upgrade the CPU cooler though.Have fun,Chuck
  7. Excuse me? I take the time to point out that this VA has blatantly copied copyrighted content from a VA that has been around for well over a decade and I stand accused of hijacking their thread for promoting? I think you missed the intended point that this VA has violated another VA's rights by using their content without permission. :( CVA is doing quite fine thank you (over 200 members) without having to post here for new members. :(
  8. Or you can apply at Canadian Virtual Airlines that has been in continuous operation for going on 14 years. While you are there, you can view some of the documents the the original poster copied and pasted to create his documents. The one and onlyCanadian Virtual Airlines, be original, be unique and you can stand the test of time!http://www.canadianva.com/phpvms/index.php
  9. Err, my FS Limiter is a bat file. Mine is listed as fsx.exe.limited.bat.ChuckCYXU
  10. There was rumor of a bug in the frame rate limiter that FSX has. When reducing your frames, it would cause stutters. By using the FPS limiter, you leave your frames in FSX unlocked and control them externally from the game. I have used it for over a year now and find that it makes my experience virtually stutter free. Also, I would see swings of framerates jumping all over the place even much lower than the 30 FPS I have selected in FPS limiter with stutters. With FPS limiter, no stutters and rarely ever dips below 30 FPS.ChuckCYXU
  11. Well there's the problem. I have the box checked off to receive updates on new products, yet I received nothing when the manuals were released. I guess I will just keep checking the forum for now.ChuckCYXU
  12. I'm not all that worried about when, I just want to know....will it have a pogo stick? :( ChuckCYXU
  13. I have X-Plane 9 as well and just as others have said, I found it to be very underwhelming. The user interface was far too complicated, airport graphics where ... well, they weren't. Unless you were at a major international airport, you did well to have a ramp area let alone any buildings. I found that any aircraft I tried suffered from adverse yawing so much so that they felt like they were balancing on the head of a pin. I have been in a fair few aircraft and never had the feeling of yaw like I see in X-Plane.That being said, when X-Plane 10 comes out, I will see if there is a trial download . If so, I will give it the opportunity to make up my mind.ChuckCYXU
  14. Please disregard my last post...it helps to read instructions... :( ChuckCYXU
  15. It would be cool if there was some way to write a acars plug in for different acars systems. I know some Virtual Airlines use FSFlightkeeper, FSAcars, Xacars and Kcars to report live flights.Chuck DCYXU
  16. Hmmm, I tried to login to support but it kept telling me there was no such user. Ok, must be having a senoir moment and forgot my user/password. When I tried to use the forgotten login link, it tells me there is no such email registered. There are only two possible email addresses and I have received emails from PMDG at one of them just a month ago when I last logged on. Did I do something wrong? Am I now banished from PMDG? :( If someone could have a peek when they get over their New Years head aches, I would appreciate it.Chuck DickeyCYXU
  17. I am running the 920 with a Noctua after market heatsink and fan. I am running stable as a rock at 3.25 and could go farther if need be. If I had it to do over, I would have gotten the Corsair H50 or H70 all in one water cooling systems. It is very true that the sweet spot kicks in at 3.0 GHz. Running stock 2.66 it was no better than my old Core 2 Duo at 2.18. Once I passed 3.0 GHz, it was like someone flipped a switch. On water cooling, I'd lay odds at a stable 4.0 but I like to leave my system on so I throttle back a bit.Cheers and good luck!ChuckCYXU
  18. Using FSX Gold, loading the default Cessna at KSEA, I shut down the engine leaving just Avionics and Master Battery on. I then switch to the Tin Mouse II Continental airlines and let it fully load. I pull up the throttle quadrant and if I happen to click on the Stab Trim selector on the lower right near the parking brake light, I get a crash to desktop every time.ChuckCYXU
  19. You can take away the dot as long as the pogo stick is still there!!! :( Chuck D.CYXU
  20. I couldn't agree more Jeff. The absurdity of this ever growing thread has bored me to tears. That being said, I still come and check it once or twice a week. In the beginning, I was almost lusting for the NGX. Now it has been relegated to something I might buy someday. You dangle meat in front of an animal long enough without letting it have it, they eventually just leave.Chuck D.CYXU
  21. I'm not saying I agree with the concept of a single pilot on the flightdeck but I can see it coming some day. Think about it, we have two humans on the flightdeck to cross check and be able to take over if the other is unable. What if we get to the point of full automation of the flight? With a single pilot, you would still have the redundancy we currently have. The only difference is that one pilot is a carbon based lifeform and the other a silicon based machine. I am sure that this is still many years from being seen in fleet service, but I am quite sure that it will come to be.My two cents,Chuck D.CYXU

    Fish strike!

I like that last little bit of the story..."fly fishing".What you using fer bait today Bill?A 737-200...you should see em jump for it!!ChuckCYXU
  23. I was very interested when I received an email from them on my home email account. I have not used my home email account to register or do any flight simulation business in years!! In fact, there are only two sites that come to mind that I may have used my home email on and that is Avsim and a small Virtual Airline that I am still with.I have not registered with SimFly and I certainly did not supply them with my home email account. It is quite possible it was still in the Avsim database though.... :( Things that make you say hmmmm.... :( ChuckCYXU
  24. Success!!It turns out that one of the apps that comes with the motherboard is not compatible with Raid. The Asus boards have an app called Express Gate which allows you to start your computer and browse the internet without booting to the OS. This is a two part app. You enable it in the bios and then install the app in the OS. Since I had it enabled during my previous testing, it caused grief trying to install the OS.I did manage to get the OS installed with it enabled but had freezes and lockups afterwards. I found an obscure post is one far reaching forum about it not being compatible with Raid. There is nothing regarding this limitation in the manual though. I uninstalled the app and disabled it in the bios and gave the computer to my 11 year old son telling his to make it sweat to see if he could cause it to break. If it can survive a full day with an 11 year old without a hitch, I'd say we have to sorted out. Thanks to all who replied.ChuckCYXU
  25. Pardon my poor choice of words. I meant redundancy, not backup. I am less concerned with human actions deleting a file as I am with hardware failure. If you have no solutions to the Raid 1 situation that I originally posted then thank you for your input but it does not address the current situation. :( ChuckCYXU
