September 18, 200322 yr I found the reference on Intel's site (IDF news): "...previously unannounced desktop processor, the Intel
September 18, 200322 yr I have P4 3.06Mhz FSB 533, 1Gb PC1066, GF4Ti4600 on WinXP Pro SP1+SP2 system. I planned to upgrade to P4 3.2Ghz FSB800, FX5900 Ultra anyway.
September 18, 200322 yr Not worth it. Maybe the FX5900 Ultra but the CPU isnt worth the upgrade. You are only getting 0.14GHz improvement and the extra memory on die on the Extreme chip isn't going to improve things by leaps and bounds. You could get the new Extreme or regular P4 chip, but it would be only a minor (if any at all in some stuff) performance gain.
September 18, 200322 yr Hard to say until they release pricing. May be more cost effective to overclock a 2.8 with a water cooler than drop $600 on a chip. The retail for the 3.2 is over $600 - can't see this one being less than that.
September 18, 200322 yr I heard P3.2 FSB800 with dual-channel DDR is a leap over P3.06 FSB533. Any comments? Is FSB 800Mhz 3.2Ghz really faster for MSFS than 3.06?

September 18, 200322 yr If wait then why not wait for P5 ?? It should be here by Christmas.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
September 18, 200322 yr Of course I meant 500Kb of L2 cache. Anyway thanks for the information. Possibly 5-10% in MSFS?
September 19, 200322 yr If you upgrade from a 3.06 to the 3.2 you have too much money. And now AMD is about to release its very promising amd unique new generation of CPUs also. Better wait to see how things play out in the next round of AMD vs. Intel.- Oyvind
September 19, 200322 yr 2MB of L3 cache...eh...On the AMD Opteron, the system ram IS the L3 cache. Funny how that works. The P4C EXTREME EDITION is just another Intel marketing ploy to cop you for every cent you've got before they finally come out with the Prescott Pentiums. A complete waste.
September 19, 200322 yr Extreme Low Bang to Buck ratio I'm afraid . . .I'm going to make this guy work until I can do at least 4GHz. Even THAT is only a 30% performance boost. May even wait to 4.5 or more . . .Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. Aircraft used in MSFS 2024: Fenix A320, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.
September 19, 200322 yr If you like flying in clear weather FS2004 runs fine now. But, if you like real world weather and a storm is near, you are going to need a Px 5.0+ or more. If you are seeing 5 fps double, the processor speed and you will be lucky to see 9-10 fps.I think FS2004 needs a minimum fps slider not a maximum.
September 19, 200322 yr With your current system/MB you should be able to replace just the processor. I understand though that the ED processor will be in the $800 range for consumers and won't be available to individual consumers until early next year. That's a little expensive for such a small increase in power.Jim Young
