September 20, 200322 yr Help!Everytime I try and create a high altitude airway flight plan from Toronto to Europe, the flight planner adds some strange waypoints which take me to the northern coast of South America before sending me on to Europe. I'm sure it wasn't designed this way, but that's is what it is doing. I usually only have the JET ROUTE button checked. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THIS SO THAT I GET A MORE DIRECT ROUTE?Tapa340
September 20, 200322 yr Ok, still no reply. Can someone/anyone please tell me if they also have this problem. At least that way I'll know if it is just me or an FS problem.Thanks,Tapa340
September 20, 200322 yr You are very vague regarding FS version (FS2002 or FS9), what flight planner you are trying to use ...I just tried FS2002 Filght Planner planning a flight from CYYZ to EBBR (Brussels National) and the path took me across the Atlantic, over France, over Marseille, Corsica, Malta, deep into North Africa ("TANLI") where the course neaded north again. VERY ODD. Honestly I have done flights from Port Moresby to Biak in New Guinea, on to Manado in Indonesia without a problem. Of course you can always start a plan and delete/add what you want.I have been around the world on all the continents ion FS2002 and never had an extremeley crazy plan as I just saw ... hmmmm. So, you are not alone.I would try FSBUILD or FSNav or NAV3.1 to build your flight plans. Here is the route built by FSBUILD 2.0 CYYZ YCF J555 YQB YRI J568 HITOR J571 YAY 5349N 5541N 5733N 5824N 5814N ETSOM UP58 PELET UL74 MONIL UB1 PAM UB31 WOODY EBBR/0708. Looked fine on the map. You can use any of the above to load up FS2002 or FS9 (not sure about Nav 3.1 though) and most FMC devices or MCDU devices.
September 21, 200322 yr Thanks for the earlier reply. To be clear, I've had this problem since Fs2002. I thought it was just a bug, but FS9 is doing the same thing. When I try and create a high altitude flight plan from Toronto to London, I get waypoints that take me to the Westcoast of Canada, before turning me towards the North Pole, then Greenland, over Iceland and finally into London. CYYZ to LPPT takes me to the north end of Brazil before sending me on. I'm not sure why this only seems to be happening to me, but trust me, it is. Which icons in the map view do you have selected when auto-generating a flight plan?And...Of the programs you recommended, which would you say is the best?Anyway, thank you for all your help with this.Regards,Tapa340
September 21, 200322 yr >I'm not sure why this only seems to be happening to me, but trust >me, it is. Its not just you, its a known problem with FS's route generating algorithm, it goes back to FS2000 when the Planner was first included in MSFS.There's really not much you can do about it, except make corrections after the fact like Paul has suggested. The FS planner actually does good intercontinental routes IMO, but on some long distance routes it seems to have problems, in particular long routes that go over areas where there are few airways. As long as you stay within its limits the FS Planner it will give you many good flight plans. But if you intend to do a lot of Transatlantic routes, you'll likely have to use another Planner for those type of routes.Regards.Ernie.
September 21, 200322 yr I have read your message.I have on trial the FSNavigator flight plan.It looks great. And what is even better you can download it for a 20x test. After 20 times using it you must pay the product or you cannot use it anymore. You can find more information at http://www.fsnavigator.com/Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
September 21, 200322 yr Author NAV 3.1 is freeware and I use it with Radar Contact 3.1 in FS2. The only main problem is that the data bases need updating. I convert the databases from those downloaded from www.navdata.at in RC format to the nav 3.1 format (not too hard) and run the nav compiler. It is somewhat complex to convert but it is freeware. nav 3.1 lasty release was beta and very occasionly will get weirs if system resources are low. It does have an automatic routing feature (I do not use it) and the planner can do great circle paths. One of the databases is SIDs and STARs to include in your flight plan, then you can edit them. The plan printout is better than FS2K2 in my opinion. You also maintain a flight profile which can be edited/saved for each aircraft which is used to estimate time enroute, top of climb and descent start points. You can enter only one wind vector (which I do not use, i do my own crabbing (pun intended). Now this is a bit of work but it will give you a temporary free alternative, maybe permanent. The actual use once it is updated is quite intuitive. After saving the plan and also exporting to FS2K2, I usually reboot my W98SE machine to recover resources before flying.
