September 30, 200322 yr Wow Max, I feel have to chime in here now.Nvidia getting out of (the) graphics business? Good lord man, how you came up with that (even after reading all your posts here) is beyond me. If you knew anything about the business side of the graphics market, you'd fully realize what a silly statement that is.Their focus is changing to a wider and more investor durable market as every corporation *must* when it grows as large as NV. Regardless of their current lead or follow at the top end of the graphics business (remember, they lead massively on the bottom line because of the midrange and lowend), a company that has grown to NV's size absolutely must enter new markets to sustain growth - its simple business 101 in a free market society.Nvidia still *leads by far* in the graphics business and blow ATI out of the water - thats a simple fact to verify. No, I'm not talking performance (which is almost irrelevant beyond brand reinforcement and name recognition when it comes to sales), I'm talking *business*. i.e.: market share, sales and quarterly profits. NV's midrange and lowrange lines are still selling through the roof, despite all the latest hoopla. Sure, the latest series of screwups both in execution and with their name at the highend can (and if it continues, will) turn OEMs on a dime... But that hasn't happened yet. Graphics is still, by far, 90% of Nvidia the *hugely profitable* corporation. Investors are cheering the recent news about their diversification not because of the recent gaffs at NV, but because they've (we've) been clamoring for it since the relative failure of the XBox deal. Nvidia can't grow much larger as a one/two horse show anymore. Again, its simple business 101.As a reminder, NV40, NV45 and NV50 (and all their variants) are well under development and have been for quite a while. And before NV40 reaches market, NV55 will be under development as well (probably just starting up now) - Nvidia has always had three concurrent generations under development with three separate internal design groups. That will not change in the short run according to NV's business roadmap.Don't know why you'd make such an outlandish leap and statement as you have, but I'd hope you read up on the business side of the graphics market before you do so again. It simply makes you look silly not doing so.Take care my friend,Elrond
September 30, 200322 yr Someone needs to catch up on the news: ATI is now bigger than Nvidia. Here's the lastest from Merrill: Sell, sell, sell Nvidia.http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/030929/tech_nvidia_stocks_3.html
September 30, 200322 yr >Someone needs to catch up on the news: ATI is now bigger>than Nvidia. Here's the lastest from Merrill: Sell, sell,>sell Nvidia.>>http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/030929/tech_nvidia_stocks_3.htmlAnother Drama Queen! :-lolWhat matters more than anything here is that there is a great amount of competition going on that will only force the manufacture of better hardware out of both companies all to the users benefit. But as far as:"ATI is now bigger than Nvidia."Another Queenly statement from the depths of the Unknown or the Un-knowing! :-lolATI has no doubt been gaining in the high-end desktop gpu market through Qtr2, but to say "ATI...Bigger" is really a stupid thing to say, an untruth, an exaggeration of the facts, and very Bigshot kind of statement to make. :)As of the Qrt3-03 NVs total market share has dipped 4.5% to 27% and ATIs has gained 1.6 to 21%."In the stand-alone graphics market, which fell nine per cent over the previous quarter, nVidia took the lion's share. Despite dropping three per cent it controls a 54 per cent market share, while ATI moved up two per cent to 37 per cent." http://www.itweek.co.uk/News/1143191 It was closer than that 18 months ago, this market has seen swings like this before. Will ATI become top dog again? Perhaps, perhaps not. Just today..."NVIDIA GeForce FX and GeForce FX Go graphics processing units (GPUs) have been selected by HP to power a new generation of Media Center PCs based on the new Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2004."http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site....&item_id=454007But to make such statements as "ATI..bigger than ..." is proof that Tom should put an age limit on allowing entrance to this forum.http://www.siliconstrategies.com/article/s...icleID=13000380http://www.broadcastnewsroom.com/2003/09_s.../nvidia0916.htmhttp://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display...0731084600.html
September 30, 200322 yr >Never thought two guys could be so inmature and childish.>Specially the Drama Quen "namer".... NVidia lover guy.>>Sorry but not used to grown ups behaving like kids.>>EdmundoSure, But its OK to make completely false and misleading statements about a company that employs thousands in a forum where remarks like that can have an impact on perceptions used for purchasing be it ever how small. :-roll
September 30, 200322 yr I wonder what part of that Paul didn't understand. ATI is bigger. Get over it. Merrill says SELL. Not me, I said sell six months ago. Merrill says sell.
