October 1, 200322 yr Hi allI now have some time on my hands now before I get stuck into more designing and flight training, and the PMDG 737 has had my attention for a while, it looks like a fantastic product, with a FMC! :(What do you guys/girls think of it, is it as good as the old 767PIC?Cheershttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/36133.jpg
October 1, 200322 yr Depends on what your systems specs are... FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
October 1, 200322 yr My PC spec is the following:Athlon 2100XP512 MB 2700DDR Ram60GB HDLeadtek Gf3 Ti 500SB Live PlatinumThankshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/36133.jpg
October 1, 200322 yr Great plane, great support, incredible potential.Your system should run OK as long as you don't need all the "eye candy" sliders wide open.George Stoddard
October 1, 200322 yr Ah cool.what types of systems allow you to run everything on max then, so I can get an idea?
October 1, 200322 yr You know, the "everything on Max" statement is very subjective and quite misleading IMHO. Default settings should be fine for the PMDG737....You will spend most of your time in the 2D cockpit for startup, takeoff, initial climbout up to about 10000ft and descent to landing. Time will be spent outside for taxiing (if you like doing that...I dont), cruise climb, and cruise. Cruise descent will be spent inside the cockpit, because the systems need to be monitored (VNAV could disconnect due to high speeds, etc.)Therefore, eyecandy will be secondary at the important stages of flight. The lowest FPS are in the 2D panel. I dont use the VC because that gives me really poor FPS and the lighting is not very good. Based on the position of the sun in the day, you can't see very much anyway. I am using it with only the 2D panel and with 100% AI.....not default..but the PAI installers. My counter is locked on 25 and I get that much for cruise. For taxi final approach, I get about 12 to 20 depending on the airfield....but its smooth enough for manual flying.None of my settings are at Max. They are all higher than defaults though except weather. I have left the cloud and weather sliders at defaults. I realised that I'm too busy in the cockpit to worry about clouds.About the NG itself:The NG is a nice product, that is still not finished. PMDG is working on a second patch to put in a bunch of stuff left out of the FMC. Then more patches are needed to fix little things. As it stands right now, the airplane is flyable and totally enjoyable. Added to that, PMDG has removed their registration procedure, so you just purchase, and install.....not key to implement or anything...which is really a blessing....since I got it, I've reformatted about twice already, with no re-installation issues. As it stands right now, I dont think its worth the $40....I really really miss the TCAS and some other things (I am an avid 767PICer ....actually a 757PICer). But based on their track record, I purchased when I realised that PMDG is working very hard to make it worth the $40 and more.If you have the money, then get it. EDIT: About the system needed to run everything on max. Running everything on max will most likely give you poor FPS regardles of your system. I have seen people in this forum with 3.XX gig processors and latest video cards having problems. On the other hand, some dont. To get the NG and run everything on max with a high end system, you will still have to make sacrifices.......like flying into Simflyers KJFK for example. Still, it depends on your definition of "max"Hope you get my point.
October 1, 200322 yr Will, I would recommend that you get more ram. With more ram you'll have a better experience with the VC and you'd probably be able to use the VC + Virtual Cabin. I think the VC is very nice, but wish it had more clickable switches in it. The point about how well the sun is hitting it is a good one. But I can still see good enough until it's dark outside for the most part.Jim

A lot of aircraft for your money, but with an impact on fps. About 5-6 fps less compared to the fps I get with the default cessna 172 on my hardware. I hope this info may help you. Other PMDG users have reported that they have less impact on fps and I don't know why. That's it.Ulf BAMD Athlon 2200+XP (ASUS A7V8X mobo with VIA KT400)1 GB RAMGF FX5800 128 MBCreative Audigy Player
October 1, 200322 yr Without SU2, I am enjoying PSS 330/340 more, even in it's current state.SID/STARs actually work, I get more framerates (!), they actually tell when the next patch will come out, I can use the VC with almost same frame rates and I can start the cockpit cold & dark. Not to mention it does not have "tell me when you update your computer" protection system.
October 1, 200322 yr I know what you mean about clickable switches in the VC. Its so strange.....a lot of commercial developers have stated that they are unable to get more switches clickable in the VC because Microsoft hasn't released the SDKs yet. And for a long time, I bought that argument. But now I'm not so sure if that's so true. I dont know if you have the Eaglesoft Hawker 400XP. Well I do, and I'll say this....90% of the switches are clickable in the VC. As a matter of fact I dont need to use the 2D panel for any phase of flight, from startup to shutdown. I no longer buy the excuse about waiting for the SDK. If Eaglesoft could do it then so can PMDG and PSS and all the others. You could be right about the RAM, I only have 512 MB.
October 1, 200322 yr It's a good plane - very hard to compare with PIC though, which is an FS2000 product.- great hand flying airplane- great VC, I happen to like it a great deal because I have the Track IR equipment and this one really gives a sense of being in the cockpit. - couple of bugs still being worked on - but Robert and Co. will fix them, I have no doubt (I owned their 757 and 767 products for Fly!)- most of the systems are functional, less so than PIC. Does not bother me though, I don't have a first officer to help with the workload so I am not disturbed by the lack of systems fidelity. - a number of good view options with the 2d panel- If you use the 3.8 version of the nav data, no real probs with sids and starsReally depends on what you like to do. If you are a systems freak and will get upset if every last system is not modeled, you will be disapointed. If not, you will probably really like the airplane. I like flying, not pushing buttons, so I like that this plane hand flies well. It is a blast to fly it in the pattern.
October 1, 200322 yr Anthony,I'm with you all the way there. I was buying the argument that the SDK is needed too. But yes, I have the HawkerXP and know just what you mean. Not only that, I have the Dreamfleet Cessna 310L Charlie Mike 7. Amazing VC where every damn thing is clickable and then some! Instruments can be covered up individually with a cover! So yeah, pretty hard to buy that excuse now imo.Jim

October 1, 200322 yr The MCP is all clickable, but some simple things that make a big difference are not, such as external lights, engine starter switches, pax signs... It would be great to not have to switch to the 2D when taxiing into position.Ghttp://members.rogers.com/gmoffatt/images/ERJ_CRT.jpg
October 1, 200322 yr Hi,Well Gosta, I know you are pretty knowledgable and I must say I'm no gauge programmer, so I will definitely take what you say into consideration. But as gregger points out it would be nice to have some more of the simpler switches working in there. Not that big a deal to switch to the 2D panel which is pretty nice too. I have patience and have hope some more will be done for the VC switches once the SDK comes out.Cheerio,Jim
