Thinking of buying PMDG 737, do you recommend it?

Featured Replies

Hi Jim,currently, none of the overhead gauges are installed in the VC. There are two possible reasons for that, I could think about - performance, the more gauges are called up, the more resources are needed, or VC mapping, i.e. can you actually put gauges on the ceiling? I haven't checked that with other aircraft, so I don't know if that's actually a limitation. If it's just a performance issue, PMDG could just include it anyway, and give instructions on how to remove gauges selectively, if you suffer too much of a performance hit (basically you just put two slashes in front of the gauge you want to remove in the panel.cfg and that's it). Of course, this could cause a lot of support issues :)...Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Well you might say that with your version release but not with what I am flying, other than SOFT CONSTRAINTS this surpasses PIC 767 hands down. My point will be proven with the release of SU2! There will be a FIRST in the flight sim world released with SU2 for a Boeing ;) ain't no 2000 version aircraft will touch!
Best Wishes,Randy J. Hi Randy, what do you mean by SOFT CONSTRAINTS, and why do you think that the PMDG will be better than the PIC? I'm just curious.

I never use the VC, but in any case I'm really impressed with this product. I must also say that I didn't have any of the problems copiously described before the latest patch: pre-SU1.1. In the few months I've owned this product, it's the only bird I've flown on VATSIM, simply because of its excellent FMC and because it behaves as I expect it to - no surprises!EDIT: is it as good as 767PIC? Well, no..........!!!Cheers,Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/sbird.jpgOfficially licenced by British Airways plc for use of name and logo[p]AMD XP2800+ Barton, Gigabyte GA-7NNXP nForce2, 1Gig Crucial PC3200 DDR 400MHz, Gainward 128 MB GF4-4200, SB Audigy, 3 x WD Caviar SE[/p]

Dont get me wrong.......it's a good product, but needs some work, hopefully with the upcoming patch. What do I love about it? The cockpit and external sounds are OUTSTANDING, and I mean they really cook. The VC is OK, but not great and not very functional, however, the virtual passenger compartment is GREAT! The 2D is actually one of the better around and is pretty to look at. The FMC is buggy. I had to add on the FS9 GPS gauge as a backup for in-flight information. The dataset (airac) for the FMC frequently misfires on a lot of what should be very common information and you cannot at present reset the FMC in the air, it simply wont do it and it WILL leave you high and dry for navigation, so beware!......... but frankly, I'm a sucker, a REAL sucker for great sounds and good looks and this baby seduces me every time!! Hi, I have had this aircraft for nearly a year now, I thinks its great. I would not hesitate to recommend you get it, and get stuck into flying. I do,when the autodolly indoors lets me. I have had trouible with locating sid/stars for the FMC, but I see from other contributors to the forum, I am not alone. I run a p4 2.4ghz ona gigabyte board which has rambus memory. I have just upgraded this from 512mb ram to 1 Gb. Like other contributers, I have the sliders higher than norm most are not on max though. The graphic is an MSI gforce TI4800 with 128 Mb ram on board and it all runs through a sound blaster live sound care...which does not seem to be working at the mo. Total hard disc space is 160 Gbhope you enjoy it

:-lol, crums this is an old post of mine!! I bought the PMDG 600/700 A LONG time ago, and was worth the money, and enjoying it thoroughly. The latest 800/900 series looks better though.http://www.onlinesimulationsolutions.com/sigs/wdosssig.jpgPPL Pilot, starting ATPL between January - March 2005.

My PMDG 737 has stopped working.I can't load it anymore.. for some reason..the FSim shutsdown and restarts.Even if I start from scratch and use the 2D default cessna 172 and change aircraft..its happning too.:(When it was working..it was a jaw dropping simulated aircraft.. the avionics and the glass panel was aweome...it was so smooth...My Fsim has become very unstabe too with all the addons... My reality XP GPS also causes freeze. But then I don't use the realit yXP with the PMDG 737.

I'm wondering if these addon products are conflicting at all with one another, or you've installed these things incorrectly. The other thing could be down to memory or a semi corrupt FS.Sadly when something like this happends, you can only really do the trial and error (deactivating/removing other products) method until you find the problem, we've all been there, I get it enough while trying to export my work from gmax! :-lolhttp://www.onlinesimulationsolutions.com/sigs/wdosssig.jpgPPL Pilot, starting ATPL between January - March 2005.

Haha this IS an old post Will ;-). Please download the PMDG remover tool here http://www.precisionmanuals.com/downloads/inc_downloading.asp?iFile=209 Then re-install in correct order.Best Wishes,
Randy J. Hey, hey wait a second...I own the PMDG 737-600,700,800,900 - I think that the product is indeed finished, I always Fly full FMC programmed flights, introducion holds and restrictions, programming waypoints on the flight, sid stars, you name it, I have not run into a single hiccup that I have not been able to trace to Guess what: User Problem.I am no real pilot... Maybe that's why I ALWAYS fly in the VC, the only 2d pop up used is the FMC itself, though I have managed to program HOLDS in the VC using the scroll wheel zooming function of the mouse using Active Camera. The Virtual Cockpit is Clickable...YES it is I have flown using the VC from Cold and Dark to Shut down! (provided that I own the 800-900)I never owned the 767 PIC, so I cant comment of that, I now its a Landmark in Airliner design, but come on guys 767 is gone, and hands down PMDG 737 has no competition in complexity and feel about flying an airliner in FS, I guess if you want more, you have to go to UA and book a couple of hours on a Professional SIM.Go to the forum... There are REAL 737 NG pilots that contribute to it, not endorsed by PMDG... FS is a game... Big limitations, PMDG has given us a great product overcomming lots of those limitations and handicaps... Along with AS2004 is the best money I have spent on FS... Period.See my profile, my posts, I am not endorsed by any company, this is my oppinion I could be wrong...
