October 6, 200322 yr You won't have missed it - over 400 downloads so far in about ten minutes says so! - but this is just to endorse Eric Thornton's astonishingly good FS Video (playable outside FS) of a Kai Tak R13 arrival in a classic liveried 744.I have done that landing many, many times in real life (and fluffed it many, many times in flightsim) and I can tell you that, as Eric says, this is as close as you will get to experiencing it now. Fantastic job, Eric my man. The fact that you did it in FS2002 with Thomas Kwong's scenery makes it all the better! If you ain't gorrit, geddit.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM

October 6, 200322 yr Author Mark,You are absolutely right! This video is fantastic! My girlfriend comes from Hong Kong and she recognised and remembered those flights! Superb!Eric, my compliments!BTW: whats that scenery??!?!?!
October 6, 200322 yr That's Thomas Kwong's FS2000 airport used in FS2002. Streets better than the commercial versions. The FS2000 static aircraft work for FS2002 as well, although I note that Eric doesn't use those. Eric may also have Eric Chen's autogen in there too, not sure, and Ian Thatcher's landclass, perhaps. Not forgetting Ray Taburet's mesh which is ONLY available on my site. All that stuff is on my site (FS2002 and FS2000 pages), in any case.I've been so busy doing other things for FS2004 that I haven't yet tried Thomas Kwong's FS2000 scenery in FS2004. Anyone?Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontP.S. Ha! Over 1200 downloads now! Kai Tak lives!http://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
October 6, 200322 yr Hehe =) Thanks for the compliments! This is the file name: cpavkaitak.zipTK's scenery works in FS2004 but the navaids don't work. When I do this approach I turn down the display detail so it's very smooth. This is one approach you have to be on top of your game or forget it, no time to admire the scenery. I just turned up the scenery for this video. =PI hear samsoft is developing a new GMAX version of Hong Kong including Kai Tak.Mark I knew you'd enjoy this video. :)Long live Kai Tak! Eric Thornton
October 7, 200322 yr Thanks for the heads-up regarding the video. I watched it over a few times and yes, it really does capture the beauty of a green and white striped jumbo returning to it's home at Kai Tak- a sorely missed sight!I've seen the IGS rwy 13 landing from many perspectives, from the checkerboard hill, from the rooftops of Kowloon city, from old home (which was right under the flight path), from the window seat on the right hand side, from the jumpseat in the cockpit of an Air China 747-400 and even from a 747 level-D simulator. Nonetheless, I never ever get bored of it and it's an exhilarating experience everytime...Mark's undying love for Kai Tak and Cathay Pacific is really quite something. rest assured Mark, a Kai Tak scenery for FS2004 will be made......after I finish the Chek Lap Kok scenery. (which I know Mark doesn't care much for :-lol )http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=88896&page=Thomas

October 7, 200322 yr Author Eric, thanks for letting me know it was Thomas' scenery. Although I had it installed on my FS2002 I never could use it that well due to my old computer. So it did not look that detailled at my PC.Going to reinstall it again! Thanks and Thomas thanks for your time and effort!
October 7, 200322 yr It is a very good movie you have made. Great work. Now, how did you make your FS playback into a .wmv video? It would be really interesting to know. Thanks in advance.Nico
October 7, 200322 yr Author Indeed Mark that is good news!I also have not tried to install Thomas scenery in FS2004 yet. Will do so soon (I have to get rid of the wosps under the ceiling of my room first). I have checked on your site whether I have missed some files in the meanwhile. I must admit that I find the default scenery interesting already for the Hong Kong part.Hopefully Thomas will release his sceneries soon! Especially when you see all those screenshots made in March 2002. I wonder if Thomas has a life next to making all these fantastic sceneries? Does he life in both Canada and Hong Kong?Anyhow: Thomas good luck and nice to hear from you!
October 17, 200322 yr Hi Mark. Thanks for the info. I got it and it played OK. I gave a copy to a friend on a CD and he can't play it. What codec is needed please. I guess I have the right codec and he does not. Thanks, reagrds, Bob.
