March 6, 200620 yr Hello :)Look at this screenshot:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/144164.jpgThe external textures "unload" when I've been in the cockpit for more than 20 seconds or so. They re-appear after a second or two! Is this a "feature" of MSFS, to free up resources? I've noticed the same thing in every version of MSFS since FS98!!My specs are below:P4 3.0GHzRadeon 9600, 250Mb1 GB of RAM (330 MHz):-hmmm Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"

My specs are very similar: AMD Barton 3000+, Radeon 9800Pro, 1GB Ram.No solutions until now...Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
March 6, 200620 yr Author hi,i would suggest to convert the textures from this model into the DXT3 format. This can be done with an tool called imagetool. Do a google-search for this tool or look into one of your FS2004 CD
March 8, 200620 yr Thanks for the replies :) I'll look into the DXT3 format! Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
March 8, 200620 yr Ron's suggestion about DXT3 is a good one. The reason behind the textures disappearing when views are switched is due to the cacheing of texture within the memory of the video card. If the video card isn't "using" textures that are on the monitor, it will dump them from memory to free up textures that are being used - terrain, clouds, etc. Converting the bitmaps to DXT3, if they are 32-bit, shrinks the file size significantly enough that the video card won't have to dump them to make room, because their "footprint" will be much less. Keeping your HDD defragmented will increase the speed that the GPU is able to read the files in the first place, but if the GPU is able to retain the bitmaps, then it won't be an issue. I would also suggest clearing the temp internet files, prefetch folder, and temp folder each time before running FS. Also, I would highly recommend using Ken Salter's FSautostart, as it will kill programs that you don't need to run while in FS (if properly configured, of course).FSX will allow much better utilization of the GPU engine, so these issues hopefully will be a thing of the past!Best regards,Owen *****<br>J. March 10, 200620 yr Look in your registry and see how you have the LargeSystemCache set. It is in the following location:HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementIt should be set to "0" or you will probably have this loss of texture issue.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync.
