November 17, 201015 yr Commercial Member Hi , I am going to be doing an upgrade of my motherboard, CPU , memory and graphics card. I will be keeping my SSD drives, with my install of windows, FSX and my scenery untouched. My question is this: Will my existing installation of windows on the "see" all the new hardware etc ok when I plug the drive in and do all the necessary re adjustments to setting etc, or will I need to re install windows from scratch. And if this is the case, what about my FSX install ( Its on a separate drive to my windows) Any advice appreciatedCheers, Mark
November 17, 201015 yr Hey Mate,I did my upgrade yesterday and was in the same situation as you. I kept all my components the same brand. Asus board for Asus board. AMD cpu for AMD cpu, etc. After some BIOS settings my Windows 7 booted fine. Updated drivers for the new hardware. Ran FSX with no errors or anything. I did not have to reinstall Windows. If however you are changing brands of hardware (AMD to Intel) it might be different. I don't know.Good Luck!
November 18, 201015 yr Doesn't make a lick of difference... at least not for Vista/WIn7. WinXP is another story...I wouldn't.
November 18, 201015 yr I have upgraded components on Vista and XP several times. I had to re register windows, but there were no problems.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

If the drivers already installed are significantly different, your system MAY not boot at all. If your system boots, then W7 should be able to make the necessary changes. If you're using XP - you may need to do a repair install from the CD.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
