How to take off in the Dash-8

Featured Replies

There have been a few posts about Oleksiy Frolov's Dash-8 indicating some confusion about how to take off. There are a few simple things you have to do to execute a successful take off. First of all, before you taxi, advance the prop controls to max (press Ctrl + F4). Next, before you take off, check the following:1. Make sure the pitch trim is in the T/O range, indicated by the white bar on the trim wheel, which is on the throttles.2. Turn auto feather on (main panel).3. Set your flaps to 5 4. Most important: unlock the throttles (the switch over the throttle levers).Failure to do any of these things will result in an alarm going off when you advance the throttle. If you ignore the alarm and attempt to take off anyway, you will crash and die, your crew and passengers will die, and a number of innocents on the ground may also die, so don't do it!Take some time to master it, it's definitely worth the effort, and ask questions if you need help, there's lots of Fanda fans here.

Yep...the panel is amazing!Best,Bruno Francescoli.

It is amazing, but I honestly can't read any of it, the lettering is way too small. Is it me? Because I've read a few forum posts and no one mentions it even though it makes it very unuseable for me. I'm using 1024 768 reso, nothing's blurry, just too small. It's a pain to have to alt-tab to the manual every time I need to flip a switch.Anyone else have this problem?P.S.I tried opening the textures, but my editor(The Gimp) can't read them and I've tried 2 different texture editors made for msfs and they can't read them either. If someone knows a way to edit them I'd much appreciate.

Hi,Explain a bit more plz.I'm not able to pass the 80kts with full power. (throttles unlocked). The condition levers are full up (well almost, I'm not able to push them the last way to the top. They stop at the ident next to flaps5 posiion.)Autofeather = on and when I press full throttle the 'arm' light turns on. I dunno if this has to happen?I also noticed that at 80kts and bringing the throttles back to idle, the aircraft stops itself rather easily. (yes: (parking) brakes are off)No warning lights lit up and no lights on the annuciator.I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Problem solved. It appeared to be my spoiler axis calibration in FSUIPC.If more people have this problem, check the following (as advised by Oleksiy):Go to the fsuipc joystick axis settings, and disable the spoiler axis calibration. It must read "NO AXIS"

I had the same problem with a spoiler axis going through FSUIPC. I used Herve Sors' AFSD util to watch things, and with the axis set, regardless of its position every time I movd the throttle IO would get an indication of spoilers at 40%-60% (varied). I could use / keyand it would go to 100%, and then 0%, but as soon as I touch the throttle lever, back to about 50%. Killing the spoiler axis input on the FS joystick axis assignment did not cure it, only disabling in FSUIPC. This was with the 1.004 and 1.004a installed. Haven't tried with 1.004b yet. This is also with FSUIPC 2.975, not 3.11.scott s..
