Computer for Cristmas

Featured Replies

Hi there,i'm currently looking for a new computer system for cristmas.Because i don't know so much about computers and what's in them i ask you if you can help me.I plan to spend about 550€ for the new computer (more isn't possible because of my parents restrictions :( and their computer philosophies ).I only need the hardware. I already have the software necessary. Also i'd like to say that a 500GB harddrive.Just for the case that it's important (as said, i don't know much about computers)i use Win7 64bits. What else would you recommend me?I'm thankfull for every advice. And another question: A friend (who don't knows flightsim) recommended me this:AMD Phenom™ II X6 1055T 6× 2800 MHz1000 GB SATA, 7.200 U/min as Harddrive4096 MB DDR3-RAMATI Radeon™ HD 5550, 2048 MB, VGA, DVI, HDMIIs there someone with a similar system who can tell me what i can expext with that?Or can I get something better for my money?RegardsEmi

Going to be very difficult to built a really good FSX system on that low of a budget unfortunately. If you can find a way to make it work out price wise, get an Intel i5 750 and overclock it, it'll perform better than that AMD chip in FSX. I'd prioritize getting a good CPU over the video card.

If you want to run FSX, I recommend you an Intel Core I7 (Quad). I personally don´t have such CPU ( my spec´s can you see below), but I´ve heared good things from this processors. Maybe you could take an 3,6 Ghz and overclock them to 4,00 Ghz or something else.I personnaly have the "old" Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 overclocked to 3,00 Ghz, but if I would buy me a new system I would take some I7 .The rest of the list looks quite good, but you should try to get some very fast RAM, maybe upgrade to 8 GB, but 4 is good too. Then try to get an external HDD, it´s allways better bo backup your data. If you need some ideas, what hardware to take, you can look at my spec´s, I can run FSX smoothly with the RealAir Beech Duke in mostly all areas without problems and 80% ai traffic enabled, so it works quite good.If you have some other questiones, don´t hesitate to contact me via PM. P.S.: Why didn´t you post this in the hardware forum?

Best regards, Steffen

Yep - go with this Emi. GTX460 is better than the ATI card you initially posted anyway. Try to get the 1GB version though, it's just 30 or so more and will help with the high quality texture option on the NGX.

All right, thanks four advices. I think i have to get a little more money then, but if this would be on what i could run the FS well. Could you tell me what specs in the FSX option menu i could use then? (I mean the sliders on the terrain menuAnd how well would the JS41 run on it Ryan, any idea?@Superpilotv2:Weil ich nicht wusste das es eins dafür gibt :( Ich bin eben nicht so oft im AVSIM Forum tätig, und wenn dann auch fast ausschließlich im PMDG Forum :( RegardsEmanuel

If you get a good cooler (Megahalems etc) and overclock the i5 CPU to ~4.0GHz, you'll be able to run nearly maxed out with this system.

Don't forget to add in cost for a new power supply. The one in his existing desktop (can it be taken apart & recycled into the new PC?) may not be able to supply the juice needed by today's hardware. Another consideration is the case. Gotta make sure the new mainboard is the correct form to fit old case.Aside from that I'd go with what he has listed. Looks like a pretty solid setup that should keep you happy for a while.PS: Yes I'm oldschool and refuse to call it a motherboard. Mainboard is more appropriate in my mind and I will never quit calling it that Tounge.gif
