November 29, 201015 yr I have made two flights recently to receive "radar services terminated........."The first, yesterday, on arrival in the vicinity of ENHD in Norway - a relatively small field although with ILS system. The termination of radar services I accepted B) (not a lot of choice!) as maybe it was just a small field at the back of beyond.......but still with ILS........Made the necessary adjustments and landed OK etc, etc.Today a flight into EDDK - Cologne, one of the biggest airports in Germany.......Again "radar services terminated....." :( I have checked all my settings - nothing amiss........Question:Is it possible for a major field such as EDDK to suddenly NOT have Approach facilities?I have never experienced this situation previously on any flights into EDDK which I do from time to time with my VA Cargo Division. The return legs of each of the above flights were conducted without exiting FSX although RC4 was rebooted each time to insert the Flight Plan etc.The arrival at EGSS on each occasion had full radar services through descent to shut down complete with flight critique :( Still spreading the gospel according to RC4 to my many FS friends and contacts.Best regards,Ken. :( Old enough to know better... ...young enough to do most of it again! November 29, 201015 yr I have made two flights recently to receive "radar services terminated........."Ken,This is how I think it works - although I'm still learning too.RC has a database of airport facilities and uses this for your flight. EDDK is configured for Clearance, Ground and Tower but not Approach/Departure. But you can easily add these when you set your flight up - Click on Controller Info and tick the boxes. They will choose a channel that probably isn't the true one. That's no big deal, but if you are choosy about accuracy you can look up the real world details at http://www.the-airport-guide.com/airport.php?airports_id=1007 .I make it as routine to check that section carefully before starting a flight, I also sometimes find the altitude isn't the one I chose when I created the Flight Plan.John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
November 29, 201015 yr An uncontrolled field can have an ILS. It can also have no approach facility but center will give services as far as it can subject to radar coverages. At some point it will clear you for the approach procedure which means you then navigate on your own typically direct to the IAF of the approach plate and then following the route from there. This can apply to VOR approaches as well.EDDK does not show an approach control in RC on the controller page. In addition only runways 14L, 24, and 32R are ILS approaches with the rest VOR or NDB according to DEC 2009 charts. RC does not have it nor does AFCAD show it. The Aerosoft FS9 scenery I have shows those same comm frequencies in AFCAD. The STAR chart shows one STAR for all runways with a choice of two IAFs. It also lists LANGDEN RADAR which I think is regional, probably center, but it does state to expect radar vectors. That's not in the scenery data, though.Only fairly recently have RNAV approaches with transition RNAV plates been published which overlay and replace radar vectors.Charts I am using for this discussion are available if you register (free) with this eurocontrol site:http://ead-website.ead-it.com/publicuser/public/pu/login.jspENHD current charts show no approach. The STAR description does not indicate radar vectors.
