November 29, 201015 yr I'm updating my machine and It needs to be a laptop, I've found this one online and I need to know if it will be competant at running the PMDG 747 with UK 2000 scenery and everything on ultra hight/full. I want to maintain at least 35-40 fps over high traffic and detailed areas. The specs are on this link http://www.sony.co.uk/product/vn-f-series/vpcf13z1e-b
November 30, 201015 yr No. You could get some decent frame rates at medium settings but at max you would be lucky to get 15 quite honestly.

People with very powerful desktops have trouble doing that. However, that's not to say that the laptop above couldn't handle FSX very well over all, but you can't throw everything but the kitchen sink at it.

I know you really don't really have a choice, but 9 times out of 10, laptops are not the best for gaming. Desktops will always win in that aspect...at least for now until they develop some super laptop in a few years. Like Molleh said, even people with powerful PCs struggle to do that with PMDG aircraft and those settings. Jon E.

The exception is the JS41, but planes like the MD11 runs alot better than say Leonardo MD82 or Captainsim 757. I have no idea about the PMDG747, I cant stand the 747 in real life and I have no desire to purchase a 747 addon :(

I've used to fly the Captain Sim 757, but after purchasing PMDG's MD-11, it was a night and day difference. However, compared to other light payware aircraft, they are relatively FPS intensive because of all the systems modeling, especially their 747, which is really FPS intensive from what I hear. Jon E.
November 30, 201015 yr Well, it is strong enough to run FSX, either with SP2 or Acceleration/Gold, but do not expect to see good results from doing so. The only aircraft that will display best results in these laptops are aircraft that aren't FPS intensive. IMHO CLS fits that bill nicely, as well as some of Just Flight's new releases. AFAIK Overland's aircraft are very FPS friendly, due to low graphics in the VC and 2D panels, despite the high quality exterior model. And if you want 747-400s in PMDG's class, iFly's freeware download saves you more than 50 bucks, since its free. It does use up a reasonable amount of FPS, but its not as FPS hungry as most of the other models would do. Freewares work the best with laptops and weaker computers. Dave. November 30, 201015 yr I have FSX on a similar laptop, the ASUS G73JH with an i7 720Q, with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 Ghz, and the ATI 5870 GPU+ Bojote´s tweaks it runs everything I throw at it!But not on max settings of course, sliders 3/4 and AI at 25%, traffic 6% and so on...

November 30, 201015 yr I think if you want to run FSX on a laptop, then the model you linked to will probably be as good a choice as any. As others have noted however, I think you'd be doing well to have it manage what you asked (i.e everything on full throttle and a high end add on coming into somewhere such as UK2000 Heathrow or Manchester with a silky smooth 40+FPS), but on reasonably decent settings it would certainly handle the PMDG 747 well enough and smooth enough to be usable and enjoyable, since it has a good processor and a decent amount of ram. HD is a bit on the smallish side if you want to start adding tons of payware, but you could work around that with an external drive.I occasionally run FSX on a laptop which is vastly inferior to the one you are thinking of buying, and that's on pretty decent settings, but I do have it on a fairly low resolution and there is no way it can compare to my desktop in that regard. Given the compromises that a laptop inevitably brings with it, at the price, I suspect you could find something for a lot less money which would manage FSX just as well as the one you are looking at would though, so if all you want it for is FSX, then I'd keep shopping around, especially since in about a month's time, you'll probably find it substantially discounted with Christmas come and gone and DDR4 memory about to show up.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I´m totally satisfied with the performance, and since I travel a lot this machine is perfect for me!:( PS: Why did Aces put the sliders in FSX? So we could adjust according to hardware! People are obsessed with max. settings, and tweaking too...

So we could adjust according to hardware! People are obsessed with max. settings, and tweaking too...Well, that's only my personal POV about laptops. And even if the ACER base in Indonesia are planning to have this specific laptop sold here, that will definitely be out of my economic range....perhaps beyond 10 milion IDR or so?
