November 30, 201015 yr I don't know why but my FSX keeps minimizing on me, and then turns the entire aircraft in to this. I heard there was a file to fix it but have lost it. Does anyody know what file that might be? I was searching and found this site with the same problem. They say it could be due to drivers or overheating. And say to underclock the card.I'm nervous about doing that cause I dont know how.http://www.fsdreamte...hp?topic=2246.0I also see alot about shaders in this issue such as this site, is this a fix possibly?http://forum.avsim.n...opic/280688-gra ... try1745142

Sorry thunderbolt, but I can't seem to locate fsx.cfg can you giove me a general folder it'd be under in ...Microsoft Games/ FSX
November 30, 201015 yr Sorry thunderbolt, but I can't seem to locate fsx.cfg can you giove me a general folder it'd be under in ...Microsoft Games/ FSX'Start' -> 'Search' -> 'Files and Folders'. Type FSX.cfg into the search box. Same with Win 7 or Vista, except that with the later operating systems one can search directly from the top-right corner of Windows Explorer. Also - you're using W7 - type or cut 'n' paste this into the 'Start' -> 'Run' box. %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.cfg It will take you directly to it. Also - in W7 - the physical address is :- C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSXFSX.cfg is always within your home folder, under Application Data or AppDataThen - as Paul Gluck says - check your [GRAPHICS] section of the config file (opened with Notepad) and add or make sure the version line is there:-[GRAPHICS]SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=9872435 // Any number change forces a rebuild of shaders. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

You have to force a rebuild of the Shader cache file. just adding that line with any old number will do that when you next restart the sim. So - if the fsx.cfg wasn't where we said it would be - where was it. What operating system are you running? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

Should I change the top 2 shader caches to 2, or just add the line he provided and change the number? And when you say that line which one the one you provide or thunderbolt or both, and should I back up the file first?
December 1, 201015 yr Just bump the number anytime you change a value in .cfg or if the shaders go bad. Paul Gluck. December 1, 201015 yr Just bump the number anytime you change a value in .cfg or if the shaders go bad.I don't quite understand what you mean? Can you give me an example using my graphics before and after? You said change it to 2 well the first 2 have the number 1 so should I switch both or just one?
December 1, 201015 yr E.g: Change SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 to SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=2 and so on. Right of now I'm on SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=18 since the last fsx.cfg rebuild I've done. Any time you add or adjust a value like the BufferPools, HIGHMEMFIX, or added the SM3 mod or adjusted the WaterConstraints.XML you should move the version number up by a value of 1 (E.g: SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=3 to SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=4) And yes I purposely made a redundant example to the one at the start of this post. December 1, 201015 yr Commercial Member You can also just delete the shader cache folders (Users\(Your Name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX), FSX rebuilds them when you run the sim. That's easier to me than incrementing the cfg entry and letting it build up a ton of redundant shader files...
