Logging Flights

Featured Replies

Evening guys- My group of cronies have been abusing PNW, PFJ and Tongass ..(Soon to be NRM as well). We have been having a lot of fun. Every couple of flights we say "Haven't we been here before?? It looks super-nice!". This got me to thinking that we need to log our flights somewhere beyond just a directory chock full of flight plans. My first thought to use a pin, a sectional chart and a string. This sounded like a great idea until my wife nixed it in .5 seconds flat. My next option was to go back to an old trick using FLIPS V1.1 which could take a .pln file and convert it to a .KMZ file. That software is no longer compatible with my Win7 OS. It was nice to have them all listed on Google Earth. I can't find any software that can take my .pln and covert it so, GE is sort of out of the picture (I can use FS Earth to do nearly this same thing but it's really clunky). The next option is Vataware. Obviously this is an awesome service and quite nice. The only issue is that it will store only the 50 most recent flights. So, what can you guys suggest to keep a running log and graphical interface of all of our flights? Is there some cool website or tool that I don't know about?Thanks-Benjamin.

Google Earth? You can add pins to locations with any info as a 'note'

Hi Benjamin,Have you ever tried BlackBox FlightLogger at http://www.utr-online.com/Software.asp?page=4In my opinion much better than GE. Works on windows 7. In the payware section FSFlight Keeper is certainly the best available at the moment.Cheers

I strongly recommend FS Flight Keeper. It does several other things than just logging flights. Check out AVSIM's review of version 2. The current version is 3 and has full support for FSX. Some more screenshots here: screenshots.I've been using a variant of this software since 2005. Quite fun to display the paths from all my flights on the world map at once:-)- Karl

Thanks for the direction fellas. I will try them out. It looks like BlackBox flight logger will do the trick for me. I trust if I am not displaying the flight path in realtime that there shouldn't really be any noticeable performance hit on the FPS. I really like FSMap by Thomas M. so FS Flight Keeper might be pretty cool as well. The only issue I have is that I don't really want to drop $40 bucks on a logging software but I should try out the demo version before I judge. I will read the reviews you have posted. The end result has to be something that all of my pals can see and open. A .kmz lends itself nicely to this since everyone under the sun has GE. Keep the suggestions coming - I do appreciate it!
