There was a recommendation about this a few weeks ago, I think on the home page.As I connect at 56K, I thought I'd give this a try, but haven't been able to get it to work. Is anyone using this? If so, A brief idiot's guide would be very welcome.David

Please be a bit more specific. What is it not doing? Does it start up? Are there any error messages?

the downloadutily you guys promoted here at avsim some while ago...Look into newsarchives!Resumable Download UtilityPosted: Sunday, October 5, 2003 - 15:10In our constant hunt for tools and utilities to improve the life of flight sim enthusiasts, we recently stumbled upon this great little utility for higher speed downloads with resume capability. Unlike DAP and some other utilities of this nature, STARDOWNLOADER is not spyware. This util will allow you to connect to the AVSIM Library, integrates very nicely with the three most popular browsers, and is fast and easy to set up. STARDOWNLOADER can be found at the author's web site here (http://www.stardownloader.com/). Keep in mind that when using it for the AVSIM library, you should set it to "passive downloads" and do not try to download more than one file at a time (we do that to more evenly allocate bandwidth to all users). We hope you find this util useful. Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Flying.gif"A Bad Day At The Field Is Still Better Then A Good Day At Work"

Im using it and I think its pretty good for 56k connections. Try running the installer again. You can select to intergrate with IE or nectscape and which files you want to associate with it. if you have nothing selected then it wont work.if you are sure that it installed on your machine ok, click on its icon, choose options and in there make sure you have the enable integration box checked and choose your browser then hit default down the bottom and it should bring up the default files that it will work withGaz

If you are on a dialup under options-proxy turn off the proxy stuff. If you manually connect then choose under options-connections always connected to the Internet. On AVSIM when choosing DOWNLOAD in the file window of the library, as soon as the ad/auto-download window pops up, hit the start icon in the Star download dialog on the lower right before the auto download from AVSIM starts. This may not be "correct" but it works for me when library browsing and downloading.I also found that on some file sizes it may not work correctly depending on the site you are on. The resume feature is nice and works.I would NOT use it on payware downloads that only give you a one time download option. You defeat it by taking the download extension out of the file list.

Thanks for the advice, I hadn't realised it was necessary to have it integrated with my browser (IE) - I'll give it a try.David

OK, I've integrated it with IE, but I cannot get the url to appear automatically (should it?). If I enter it manually, it invariably comes up with the msg 'Cannot connect to host'.I did try reinstalling, but it made no difference. The only options I set up were the default directory and the integrate with Internet Explorer. Clearly I have missed something simple but vital. Any thoughts?David

Make sure you have PASSIVE MODE set for AVSIM. Also, make sure that you are not trying to make more than one download at a time. AVSIM will block you from doing more than 1 file and 4 simultaneous connections at a time. See images below:

Thanks all, specially Tom with the screens. Now working OK!David

Yup, I'm a convert. You can keep your Gozillas and DAPs, this is the one for me with my 56k modem.Mike
