EDIT: I forgot to mention this point too. You can throw all the expensive hardware at FSX you want, but you will need to go in and tune the .cfg file to make it purr like an Italian V-12 engine. That is one of the hardest, and after lots of money poured in last concepts about FSX I managed to understand. Since spending all the time to tweak/tune about a year ago I couldn't be happier.
Can anyone recommend a good tweaking 'guide'? I have only made MINIMAL tweaks, but if it makes a difference, I'd like to tweak to squeeze out every fps I can get.

This is the one I use, it is the old one that uses Nhancer.. I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers everyone was raving about, and it wound up drastically slowing my system so I reverted back to the old ones and re-installed Nhancer.. Looking for the newer tutorial now, but this one is a great start. http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.htmlAnother good one: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic34141_post198187.html#198187This is the one for current Nvidia Drivers using the Nspector program: http://www.simforums.com/Forums/nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated-v1932_topic36586.htmlIf anyone needs assistance with this stuff I will be more than happy to help. As I was confused as (expetive) when I started.. I would like to see people rather just modify there stuff and be able to enjoy it then spend days trying to digest this info. Now it is second nature to me, but in the beginning wow was I overwhelmed.

It is no problem. I would rather see people enjoy the sim than get frustrated like I did in the beginning.. There are also other tweaks that I think are not listed in those tutorials. The "*******" tweaks they call them. Like the HIGH_MEM_FX one, and I think there are one or 2 others. Ryan is an expert in this area as he is one of the ones that brought the HIGHMEM one to my attention when addressing other users issues. Here's the ******* tutorial. I found it at least!: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=34661&page=1

In *******' tweak, he talks about changing the "Texture_Max_Load" to 9. I currently have mine set to 4096 which is a resolution. Am I missing something?...

TextureMaxLoad is not the same as TEXTURE_MAX_LOADThe former is in the [Display] section, while TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD goes under [GRAPHICS]You have TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096.What you want to set to 9 is TextureMaxLoad

Yes you must be very careful about what you edit, and that you edit the write thing. They would be different things. You need to carefully scan the .cfg file to see if a line is named what they are telling you to edit. Otherwise you need to add it in (like the HIGH_MEM one). Is why I said it took several days for me to actually digest, and be able to use the information presented in these. Like I said after you look through your .cfg file and see what is in there you will see what they are talking about.

Ethan:Try *******'s automatic tweaking app:http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.htmlI have an Nvidia Inspector guide here on this forum too:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/291720-how-to-set-aa-in-fs9-and-fsx-for-nvidias-2xxxx-drivers-now-with-working-transparency-aa/

Why not wait for Sandy Bridge? It's due in one month
This is a good point - thing is though, it's something of a wildcard, no one's seen it in FSX yet. I'm assuming it'll be good but we don't know for sure yet. There's been a lot of talk of them effectively disabling overclocking on these too unless you buy a higher priced "K" model chip that has the multiplier unlocked... something else to consider.

That's true. It will be 2 or 3 months before we really know how those SB perform and overclock, and how they like FSX (I'm not sure I will resist myself if they hit 5GHz on air hehe). The K models are supposed to be just a few bucks more than the regular ones, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Ryan. Much appreciated.

AAAAAGH! Some people just have 'different' priorities from mine. Spend NZ$2,000 on a mid range kit and the rest on other toys. I spent a few weeks touring South Island in a camper van and while it was one of the most amazing holidays I have ever had, there was one and only one day when I didn't wish I was on my bike (an Aprilia Futura).
