Keystroke are not allways responding

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, Not sure what the problem could be but sometime I get a message from ATC to do something (ex. Contact XXX) and when I hit the keystroke on the keyborad nothing happens. The command is not recieved by RC4. I have tested other command like F11 (outside view) and that work well. It seem that sometime RC4 is not getting the keystroke.I run RC4 on the main machine as FSX. I know the keyboard worksAny hint or tips would be appreciatedPierre

It would be a good idea to describe your Windows version, aircraft you are having problems with, and other add-ons you are running along with it such as a traffic and weather program. You noted that RC is on the host FS machine so are you running a wide FS network? What applications are running on the client. Is your problem aircraft specific?Be sure unless you really need it in RC options Display Text is turned off and also Prerecorded Chatter so RC's performance is increased.Sometimes running add-ons "steal" keystrokes from RC and that is solved by redefining RC's key commands. Another cause is aircraft specific if you have an FMC or other navigation instrument that has a mode that lets you input from the keyboard. If so that should be disabled before using the START in RC.If your computer processor is loaded down RC can also be very slow to respond or miss keystrokes as well. The best technique is to run a short flight plan with first an FS default aircraft and RC, then an aircraft you have problems with to see if the trouble occurs. If not, then start a flight with another application running (weather) and if nothing occurs do another adding traffic, etc., until problems start occurring. This drawn out technique needs to be done since your problem "sometimes" occurs.Remember that the FS windows must have focus, or be in the forefront, for RC to get keystrokes. The RC FSUIPC menu window must NOT have the focus. That is just for display of status and menu choices. If you can frequently reproduce the problem then a log should be created and sent in as noted in the topic in the pinned section of this forum. That can tell, for example, if RC is receiving the keystrokes. It is always a good idea to make sure FSUIPC and WideFS modules are current as described:Get the base FSUIPC version from:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmland then interim update from the modules link on this page:http://forum.simflight.com/forum/142-download-links/FSUIPC now self installs initially based on your registry entry for your FS path. Check that with this free utility:FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool (36KB) from http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library

one of two things1) something else you have running is stealing the keystroke. try changing the rc key code 1 to ctrl-shift-1, restart fs (important!), restart rc, and try again2) fsx has to be running, not on a menu, not on the fly now screen, not in the flight planner window, when you click start rc. fsx has to be running, plane at the gate, clock ticking on the panel before you click start rcif neither of those work, then make a log, instructions pinned to the top of the forum, duplicate the problem, and send me the logjd

Thanks Ron and JD, I will try to isolate the problem. just so you know I am running Window 7 64 bit, I am flying the PMDG 747- 8F extension pack and I only have a traffic add-on MyTraffic X. RC is not running on a network setup, it's running on the FSX machine (No widefs in use). Give me time and I will get back to you. JD I will create a log if I can not solved the problemThanksPierre

If the FMC has the same keyboard capture option (for easy preflight entry) enabled be sure it is turned off otherwise it will steal the keys shown on the FMC such as numerics and /. At least it is that way on the 737NG. The hot spot to switch it on and off is to the right of the FMC keypad near the handle.FWIW according to postings on the PMDG forum here the 747X does take a lot of resources.

Hello JD and Ronzie, I finaly had time today to do some work on RC 4I decided to reconfigured my setup to my original preference. I have configured RC to work on a separate Desktop using WideFS and a network configuration. Now I have FSX on Machine #1 and RC and FSCommader on a second Machine #2. Everything is working and I do not have the keystrke issue anymore.I would like to know if it is normal that I hear the ATC and Pilot voice from the RC Machine speaker and not from the headphone on the FSX machine #1. I have FSX configure to output voices to my headphone and I would like to hear the ATC and pilot voice in the headphone connected to the FSX machine, Is this possible?Right now I can hear the ATIS info from both the RC machine speaker and the headphone on the FSX PC and I also hear the voice of the AI pilot in both machine. But if I do option 1 in RC to get clearence I only hear the ATC and pilot from the RC machine speaker, nothing in the headphone....bizarreI would like to hear all the voices in my headphone and have no sound from the speaker of the RC machine?I have attach my General options that I am using in RCThanks Pierre

RC will only play audio on the pc it is installed on (unless you use an audio patch cord from your client pc audio out to your host pc line audio in). It does not go through the FS audio mixer.I suggest since RC provides AI chatter with Interact with AI on, consider listening to RC audio on a headset connected to the client PC it is installed on. On your FS machine turn down ATC/AI audio in the FS mixer and let the cabin noise, engine sounds, etc., come out of the FS host PC audio speakers balancing those as you wish in your FS mixer settings. In my opinion that would provide a realistic sound environment with the pilot, RC ATC, and AI (via RC AI chatter) on your headsets and the environment sounds on your host speakers perhaps having your host audio driver emulate surround sound.RC's audio level is adjusted with your client master audio Windows mixer and the WAV slider as well.
