Nick's Lightfix V2 - Landing lights not showing on ground

Featured Replies

Not surprisingly, the one thing that really bugs me with FSX is the lighting effects. Therefore, I downloaded Nick's Lightfix V2, and I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem I'm having, is that the landing lights, or any other lights for that matter, won't illuminate the ground infront. I would normally ignore it, but the default lighting effects on the ground is what caused me to change, and taking it away doesn't really solve the problem :)Anyway, if anyone knows about this problem, or could suggest an alternative, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance

If you have changed the spotight.bmp in the texture folder, I am sure replacing it with the original will fix the problem. I founda xenon replacment, but changing this bmp, seems to affect some planes and not others Real pain.

Aerosoft A320 has some mean landing lights... but that's just one aircraft. So perhaps the problem isn't really FSX just lazy developers who never bothered to replace them. I do believe I read something from the PMDG camp saying they had something for the 737NGX though.

First of all, let me say that I'm not trying to make this work for 3rd party aircraft, mainly because I don't have any yet :) I'm just trying to make it work with the default airplanes. @mjrhealth:The spotlight.bmp file was changed when I installed the lightfix. It looks like it is supposed to, with the xenon effect, but it just does not show up in the simulator. I have attached some pictures to better illustrate the problem:(Hover over attachments to see filenames)Spotlight.jpg --> The new file that was added by the Lightfix installer. (Note: The actual file is a .bmp, but I wasn't allowed to attach it to the post. It looks exactly the same though.)Lights3.jpg --> A demonstration photo given by the author of the lightfix. This is how it's supposed to look.current.jpg --> The way it is for me at the moment.Thank you all very much for taking the time.

Hi Cbeppe,That spotlight.bmp should work for sure on the default planes, do you have 'landing lights illuminate ground' checked on in the fsx/display settings?David.

I downloaded the file, as I too would like better lighting in FSX. I did not install the file however, as the read me file only refers to FS9. I take this to mean it was not designed for and may not be compatible with FSX. I wonder if this could be the reason that you are having trouble.

Yes, I have the aircraft display settings as high as they go, anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing, and Dx10 enabled - whatever that may count for :) I also double-checked and restarted the game to make sure.

I thought about this too, but as far as I can tell from reviews around the web, that shouldn't be a problem... still, I wouldn't rule it out. Thanks for the replies :)

Hi Cheppe,DX10 enabled with anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing could be your problem. When using DX10, you should be using Trilinear. You will find that the lighting is for DX9. Even in FSX DX10 is only a preview. Quite a few addons for FSX don't function in DX10 for that very reason, AES being an example. DX10 is only for people who think it works in FSX, (not trying to insult you here):( Don't use anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing in DX10 or go back to DX9 with anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing for optimuim results.CheersJulian

Don't worry, I don't use that normally, but I had to see if it could solve my problem. I usually use dx9 when possible, because you can usually get better framerates.

No worries, had to be ruled out I suppose.

As most have said above, this package is meant mostly for FS9 and will therefore will not work properly with FSX (although most lights for sceneries such as the Rwy12 light effects will work in FSX), which defines where older SDK parts that are not supported with FSX are precisely contained. If I may make a suggestion, I'd suggest using A2A's 3D Lights Redux package, which provides better lighting coverage. Dave.

Thanks for telling me about A2A's 3D Lights Redux package. I switched the landing lights for those, and everything is working just fine. I kept the airport and plane lights from the other lightfix though. They are absolutely amazing. Thanks to everyone who helped me out on this one :)- Cbeppe

It was nothing. Glad to help, and kudos to A2A for those light effects. They greatly improve night flying visibility, and gives that awesome 3D look that we've been looking for. Dave.
