Unable to copy and paste in FSX

Featured Replies

I have had to reinstall FSX Acceleration and for some reason I could not do that with my usual Vista account (me) which was a member of the administrators group so I created a new user 'test', again in the admin group, and was able to install FSX Acceleration. However I cannot add scenery to the scenery library nor copy and paste into the texture folder using the 'me' account. Can anyone explain the cause of this (I suspect a permissions problem but not sure what) and a cure?UAC is turned off for both accounts. Thanks

I would have said disable UAC but since you already have, you may have to do things by running "as administrator" in addition.the real cure:As you have recently(?) reinstalled, if you installed in the the default location within Program Files and haven't customized too much you'd be a lot better off reinstalling into C:\FSX and get it OUT of the areas that WinNanny monitors. Selecting "custom installation" from the DVD allows you to place it anywhere you want. Mine is on G:, a totally separate HDD and it avoids all that 'permissions' BS on Vista and Win7.Loyd

The problems you're getting are indeed 'permissions' related.I've been fighting this (losing) battle since mistakenly installing FSX to the default destination in Windows 7, which is in the Programs(x86) area and thus almost impossible to 'get to'.The only sure-fire answer is to either start again and install to C:\FSX (i.e. NOT the default location) as I will probably do pretty soon, or buy a copy of Total Commander (Google it), which overcomes all those ridiculously tedious Windows security settings.Best of luck.Toni.

Thanks for the replies guys.FSX is not installed in the default location, it's in its own folder on the root of a disk other than C:I can live with the problem if there is not an easy solution but it's something I have never come across before. This is the 3rd reinstall in a couple of months because of various problems and it's such a pain reinstalling all my 3rd party aircraft and scenery with all the hoops you have to go through to prove what you have is legit.

Try this - it should work for Vista too.http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to-take-ownership-grant-permissions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htmVic

As I mentioned before, try Total Commander - it really works!I've tried everything to solve this - I've got full admin rights, I've taken full ownership of the files and ensured all the files (and paths) are 'mine' and that I have full rights to do everything, etc.I'm convinced it can't be done and it's a Microsoft bug.Honestly, don't drive yourself mad on this (as many others have.....) - until Microsoft fix it, which is doubtful, simply use Total Commander to successfully do what you want with the files.Toni.
